It's got "do the bartman" on it, so it's got all bases covered.

Not sure how you'd use the cassette, but I used to plug my iPod into it at the time and just play what I wanted. You could create a Spotify playlist and plug one of these in if being used in a car?

I specifically chose my Jag because it had a tape player. I have a Bluetooth cassette that just works.

I didn’t think I’d be able to record through my amp as I can only select 1 input at a time. So if I play through my Bluetooth I can’t have a tape deck connected ?

Dave!
But that’s how we recorded onto tape from our record decks or teh wireless back in the day Shirley?

I have my original 1991 Aiwa cassette deck separate in the “shed” if you are interested?
I’ll have to give it a try but I didn’t think it worked on my Denon PMA-255UK.

I shall do some geekery.

Dave!
Dave, I'm somewhat perturbed that you seem not to know how to make a mix tape already - did you not do so in the 80s and 90s?

He's looking for better quality than "Holding a Ghetoblaster up to the Record Player's Speaker"...

Good plan get a serviced one with new belts. I recently dragged my old Aiwa deck back from my mums to find that 2 of the 3 belts had melted and turned to a black goo. It was cosmetically mint but I had no use for it and was going to sell, so rather than mess around I sold it for spares/repair.

If you don’t win I can look mine out and send it to you. It’s an Aiwa ADF410 (from memory). They are pretty light for separates so it can’t cost much in postage - just send it back once you are done being a teenager again :geek: .

The comment about a phone got me thinking...

Both iPhone and Android have adapters that can give you a line-level output from either the Lightning or USB-C port.

This would end in a 3.5mm adapter suitable for a headpnone.

However, you could easily get a 3.5mm to stereo phone/RCA, and plug those directly into a cassette deck.

You could then create a playlist on Spotify/Apple Music, and "stream" it out of the phone and onto tape.

No need for an amp, speakers, separates etc.

I recently got an Helm Bolt USB-C DAC to use with my phone and headphones - it gives a great sound - far better than other USB-C to 3.5mm adapters.

It's about £90 and quite hard to get hold of, but there are plenty of other ones, and let's face it, the destination is tape, and I'm guessing you prob won't be going all Dolby-S on this one, so ultimate fidelity is less important than cost/convenience...

It's in a car, ultimate fidelity is never going to happen under any circumstances.

A Bluetooth cassette and 320kb/sec MP3 would probably be overkill for most car use given how much road and ambient noise will be going on

What a lot of faffing to listen to something on crackly tape

If it were me, I'd be hunting a Nakamichi CD HU on ebay and fitting that, along with a BT adapter. They looked dated when new so should look the part. And the sounda quality of the CD-35z I had was incredible.

It really is a lively head unit with clicks clacks buttons, it’s touchy feely.

I liked 1991, apple car play is all well and good but sometimes it’s nice to regress. Plus I can add some Careless Whisper on to woo the lady.

Swerve - those Nak head units are getting surprisingly expensive now. I’ve been half on the lookout for one for ages. They’re usually missing the bezel piece.

I'm not surprised - they were great bits of kit. I'm stil really bloody annoyed that I didn't keep mine. For some reason I had a brain fade and left it in one of the Clios when I sold it.

Best tape deck I ever had was a Becker Mexico. Bought from the biggest car hifi specialist in town. 6x9’s in a rear parcel-shelf made from 18mm MDF. Sounded superb. For 3 weeks until it was ripped out of the car….
