I’d much rather have it than pay the mortgage off a bit earlier. You’re a long time dead and paying off the mortgage would be quite an anti-climax I feel.

Dave!
I’m guessing it makes around 700bhp & 600lbs.ft?

Is that possible for road use, or would you need to pull it down for emissions, or for useability? (I assume they were originally expected to be stripped down and rebuilt every x running hours?)

Can we change the forum joke from “drop an LS in there” to “drop a Sauber in there” ?

Why not, sounds less Redneck

Mik it should in theory run better than it did before as boost, fuel and ignition control is so much better now.

Given how long Dave has been planning/attempting/failing at this, surely it already is a forum joke? ;)

Yes, it must have given you a lot of pleasure sat in your parents' garage under a sheet for 10 years

Don't pay off the mortgage then, sell it and buy an AMG GT 8-)

My guess would be quite a lot, Rich, but that is entirely a guess. These sort of things just don't become available, surely? And every now and again someone with a classic Le Mans car may require a new engine to run at the Festival of Speed or whatever.

If someone offered me 30k tomorrow I’d sell it but that’s hugely doubtful it’s worth anywhere near that. I know it’ll be close to 5 k for a re-fresh including turbos, then once you get wastegates and a full management, dash system for it then I’d be looking at 10k all in.

Or hopefully time and finances permitting I’ll be hearing it sing while I arc across a lake in Scotland with my kids with me.

On the basis a C8/C9 is probably worth £millions, I would've thought the heart of the beast would be worth a LOT more than £30k, even just to sit around as a spare

I shall try and find out but I think it will be far far less than people think.

£1.3-2.1m guide price back in 2008

That's only going to have gone up ;)

You should get on to Johnny Smith - he'd probably love to cover something like this

Insurance renewal time. £1,803.70. That's £120 more than last year. Doesn't seem too bad.

Is that for all of them? That's about a tenner per car isn't it

That is the far superior and mighty M119 though that lives in my 500e.

Right, we all know the M117 in the far cooler Sauber C8 is worth more. Can I start the bidding at £1,000,000 ?

Damm, you immediately saw through my slightly lame attempt at misdirection :D

Yes, that's for all of them. Having done the analysis (we all love the analysis) the increase is all down to changing vehicles. Looks like it would have been a decent drop otherwise.

Code: Select all

740d - £ 98.18
Vanatge - £ 21.86
Cayenne + £146.46 (instead of Touareg)
Cooper S	+ £ 64.61 (instead of ONE)
Scimitar	+ £ 66.18 (new addition)
996 - £ 22.74
Compact - £ 14.03

TOTAL + £120.45

They list the M117 for that particular C9, and a few others that have been for sale specifically list the M117. Is that not the case? Wiki suggests the C9 used both M117 and M119

Ooh I never knew that, I always thought the M119 was the only engine ever in the C9.

I’ll do some feelers tonight but thought that Mercedes got more involved with the C9 and also used it as a platform for showing off the new M119.
