what's your mileage rate? You know you can claim back the difference of it's really low.duncs500 wrote: Sat Jul 03, 2021 8:08 amThe mileage rate doesn't even cover fuel, so there's no chance of that!
I don't know, after years of leasing I feel like owning something.

It's 11/12/17p depending on engine size. I know you can claim something back at the end of the tax year, I've never done it before but I will be giving it a go next time round.Rich B wrote: Sat Jul 03, 2021 9:41 amwhat's your mileage rate? Why would you not?!! It's simple and you've probably got a load of money sat waiting for you. You can do previous years too - I did a few years in one go.duncs500 wrote: Sat Jul 03, 2021 9:47 amIt's 11/12/17p depending on engine size. You can claim the tax back on the difference so therefore can still end up out of pocket.Rich B wrote: Sat Jul 03, 2021 9:41 amwhat's your mileage rate? Haven't been claiming mileage for 4.5 years or so, been on the train into London all that time.Rich B wrote: Sat Jul 03, 2021 9:51 amWhy would you not?!! Crikey thats a low mileage rate. Can claim back 45p/mi up to 10k a year and then 25p/mi over that.

I did a few grands worth of claims when I first learned that you could claim the difference (I had a £6k car allowance and 13p a mile).
Re: Which boring car...
Yep definitely will do the claim. Car allowance is pretty decent at £8.5k at least.

Re: Which boring car...
right, now we've established there's some more money lurking about, let's revise the budget and get something that isn't mind bendingly boring like an Insignia or Mazda 6!duncs500 wrote: Sat Jul 03, 2021 6:03 pm Yep definitely will do the claim. Car allowance is pretty decent at £8.5k at least.
Re: Which boring car...
Depending on his marginal rate of tax that might barely be £420 a month or less...

Additional moneys allocated elsewhere, boring car is the clearly stated brief!

Re: Which boring car...
Is there any point buying a boring car?
On the two occasions I’ve done it, they’ve cost me more than an interesting one, as I’ve ended up selling after 3 months and 11 months for something more interesting!
This doesn’t fit your criteria for under six years old, but given that I think there’s only fifteen in existence with a private plate no one would know how old it is -

Re: Which boring car...
It's only to replace another boring car (that I've been fine with running for 3 years, and had boring ones before that too). I'm not really interested in what others may consider 'interesting'. All these sorts of cars are basically white goods for me and much of a muchness, I just want it to be passable and cheap leaving more money for shiny bits for the Lotus.
Re: Which boring car...
Nonsense Duncs, you should buy a Quattroporte to impress blokes on the internet.

just go to a car supermarket and let them tell you what to buy then!duncs500 wrote: Sun Jul 04, 2021 10:29 am It's only to replace another boring car (that I've been fine with running for 3 years, and had boring ones before that too). Re: Which boring car...
Just buy a Golf Estate - probably diesel. The definition of a boring car but decent. Then you can buy a F40 to go with it.
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Which boring car...
I mean @Marv has had his diesel golf for a million years and it’s let him have a Porsche and an M3. He appears to be doing it right.
