large house for a week

Post by Gavin »

I remember this coming up previously but cannot see anything obvious.

Thinking of trying to book out a large house somewhere in the UK for 6 adults and 7 kids and possibly a couple of dogs. Air BNB and cottage bookings are just daft money.

Has anyone got any companies worth trying?

Would happily consider static caravans type things too.

We're trying to find something at the right price for half term week. Sykes, Sally's Cottages, will ask the mrs what other sites she is using. Anything reasonably priced goes very quickly.

We got our 14 sleeper in Scotland from Cottages and Castkes I believe.

We're doing something similar, but for later in the year. Looked at several of the usual sites, but have to concede that Airbnb has the best cancellation policy. Some of the other sites wanted what amounted to full price up front with no cancellation rights or a sliding scale that started with 50% lost if you cancelled nine weeks before the booking (and going downhill from there).

We're trying to manage the complexity that we want to be able to cancel if people can't travel from abroad. That seems to be a tricky issue and as we (as a family) lost nearly a grand on last year's booking, people are naturally a bit wary.

Might be a useless suggestion, but the Landmark Trust has plenty of interesting properties and you may get lucky with price and availability.

Cheers, everyone. Turns out the dates we had planned don't work so back to looking at a long weekend instead.
