New pb in practice (only by 0.08, but a pb is a pb). Fourth in quali. Second place and old man's cup win in race one, 5th and old boys cup win in the second. And car brought home in one piece. That's got to be a good weekend by anyone's standard

But I can't help feeling what could have been...the championship leader (proper talented kid with proper team behind him) was on his spare engine and a couple of bhp down on power. I was right with him through the first race, and even closing the gap on the straights, so really felt like I could have a proper pop at him in the second. However, it wasn't to be - I got an 8/10 start and held him at 2 car lengths for a couple of laps, but then the talent started to show - he just makes fewer mistakes. The first little error cost me another two car lengths, then the second another 2. Without the tow up the straight, I lost another length, and at this point the gap became insurmountable. Fine, settle for another second place. But no. Some little twat (who'd also taken someone out in the first race) smashed into me from behind as I was turning into a 90mph corner (his fibreglass nose against my metal gearbox, so no damage for me). Somehow managed to hang onto it, but two laps later he's at it again. Comes sailing down the inside on the grass and forces me to swerve mid-way through the same corner and take to the escape road. Lost 4 places. Gained one back to re-secure the old man's cup, but gutted to have been robbed.
One slight consolation is that the Autosport photographer managed to perfectly catch the moment of the rear-end shunt, so I expect the kid's in for a shaming in next week's edition.
