Been in a Kawasaki dealer today with a couple of colleagues.

Despite the seller telling me he'd done the tyre pressures, front was 20psi and rear 25 (should be 36&42). That explains the wobbly front in corners anyway. Fully adjustable suspension was all set to soft as well so no wonder it was comfy. So I had to adjust it with a screwdriver!. Its just like the old days.

It's too fucking hot to go for a ride though..

Sport or comfort I get but what specific settings do you need to ride down a street?

The GS has normal, sport and comfort which sounds far less silly. What kind of customers is KTM trying to attract FFS.

I'm happy to report that the XJR is now seriously impressive in the twisties. It flails around like Neymar on the bumpy stuff but on a decent surface it'll probably out drag an R1 and out handle an HP2 sport.

I did the oil change on the KTM. I was surprised how much swarf had collected in the oil screens and on the magnets.

I have to say, I’m not a fan of the design of the 2 oil drains on the LC8 engine that, under normal circumstances, would dump oil directly onto the exhaust, as would the filter. Luckily I’d wrapped the exhaust in plenty of rags first.

My RT has been showing a service due indicator for the past week or two. This is odd because the service intervals are every 6,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes sooner. It was last serviced in December at 6,000 miles and is now on 9,500.

Co-incidentally, the light came on on the anniversary of it's PDI. I've come to the conclusion that the dealer didn't reset it fully in December, and it thinks its due a time-based service, even though the light went out after the last mileage-based one.

So I'll not be arsed to ride 100 miles each way to take it back to Balderstones for it's next one, and get it done locally instead, after my trip in August when it'll be around 12k miles.

So my inability to buy anything without undue hassle continues to both baffle and amuse me. The dealer I bought my KTM from phoned me this morning. Apparently they made a slight mistake with the paperwork and I have both the numberplate and log book for someone else's bike, and my bike was actually unregistered until yesterday, so I'm basically running around on false plates. Fucking amazing.

New plate is in the post, paperwork is being done with DVLA. Dealership are explaining to owner of other bike why his brand new vehicle has 1 previous owner on the log book (although that will get sorted, too).

Due to my lack of attention to detail, I hadn't bothered looking at the V5 when it arrived, I just filed it in the correct place. If I had read it carefully, I might have noticed it had the colour as Black instead of Orange.

My affection for my new motorcycle is beginning to manifest itself in strange and troubling ways. This afternoon, I caught myself fitting a chrome luggage rack to it and shortly after that noticed that I was buying two shiny chromed horns on the internet to replace the perfectly good OE black ones.

No doubt later today I shall be found in the local newsagents. Pissing quietly into my Y-fronts whist squinting at the centre spread of Classic Bike magazine.
