True. But a 2k car isn't ever going to be mint is it. Not too worried if it's cheap bargey motoring for a year or two

Looking back at this - will a 3.2 really provide the wafty experience? Or more wheezy than wafty?

3.2s are fine, plenty of torque for wafting.
Autobox isn't bad for the age of them either, will happily hold a gear rather than needlessly kickdown.
Shame they're all a bit crusty bodywise nowadays, they just look so right on the bigger wheels.

Not sure if it's still relevant with modern cars, but I had a customer who would buy 3 or 4 transporters worth of cars from Scotland as the were cheap as chips but all rotten, bring them down south, blow over the rust with stoneguard and flog them on with a new MOT and 3 month warranty. He made a killing.
I've always found Scottish cars much cheaper and it's usually for this reason. Rust.

Seems to be a common trade with Mk1 XK's turning up in the south

My 3.0 X350 is pretty wafty and I get to tell people that I have half of an Aston Martin V12.

Fairy muff - it was a genuine question as opposed to a comment - I have zero experience (other than knowing that a 3.0d 2018 XJ was a very wafty way indeed to be driven to an airport.
I should however point out that I do refute Tim’s assertion that Glsgow is a long way - ****ing or otherwise.

That’s well nice
I got a suspicious feeling that the photos of retro-rides DC2 have been enhanced; wouldn’t surprise me if the Championship White is actually Championship Milky Yellow like most are.

The x308 is 300kgs heavier than the X350 so the power to weight is slightly worse. It does have 15Nm/tonne extra torque but that's hardly going to be worth writing home about.mik wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 12:14 pm Fairy muff - it was a genuine question as opposed to a comment - I have zero experience (other than knowing that a 3.0d 2018 XJ was a very wafty way indeed to be driven to an airport.

8>6, though.
For me it came down to a choice of 3.0V6 or 4.0 XJR and all the XJRs in my price range were knackered.

That's nice, and local, but > 2x my hard budget!
Re: Glasgow is a ***ing long way
Can't hurt to have a look.
Re: Glasgow is a ***ing long way
Yeah, it's got another rubbish cherished registration which Tim could sell on to recoup some of the extra cost
ETA: probably not in fact - the R43MEJ plate is likely to be non-transferable. Have to find a different way to manipulate the Timculator, Tim!

Thank you but it appears 2 cylinders short and I'd probably be sold into slavery or something.
