I quite like that. Would never buy one over a 187bhp MX5 though, which weighs over 200kg less.

Notable that it’s using decent tyres this time rather than Prius rubber.

Would have been good to have a new GT86 with that bhp, then reserve the GR name for a fast one with 300+ bhp.

I’m surprised they stuck with the subaru engine and didn’t use the 1.6 3 cylinder from the gr Yaris

Always seemed a missed opportunity the last time, but I guess it would tread on the toes of the Supra now?

It’s not going to be lightning fast, and 260bhp would have been nicer to see, but that is a big enough power hike to flip it from underpowered-for-our-times to respectable - less reliant on the chassis being the only highlight.

I'd guess using the engine is part of the agreement with Subaru. Also if it was designed around using the flat four there might be height considerations in fitting an inline engine in.

I know some people have put 2JZs in them but I don't know how much work they had to do to get them in.
