Today’s want
Re: Today’s want
@scotta got extra info on that and a walk round vid. Looked spotless. Such a shame that it’s a CatD.

Details on the crunch
Back in May 2011 I was on a beginners track day at Cadwell Park. I wasn’t hugely experienced on track, so hired an in car instructor for the day to give me advice. Unfortunately I spun off the track and caught the tyre wall as I stopped. The damage looked minimal, a cracked rear clamshell above the drivers arch and the rear wheel slightly out of line. Luckily I had purchased track day cover. On inspection of the damage the insurance company (Aviva) decided not to repair and classed it as a Cat D. Aviva gave me the option to keep the car, which I wanted to do and have the repair carried out myself. The rear clamshells were on back order from Lotus. Steve Williams Lotus managed to find a used one in perfect condition, he had it painted and carried out the replacement. As well as the rear clamshell being swapped, the wishbones on the drivers side rear only were slightly bent, these were replaced with new, direct from Lotus. There was no chassis / structural damage and the wheel, shock assembly, driveshaft etc are still original, as they were not damaged. At the same time I had the upgraded rear toe link kit fitted.
As years went on I did a few track days, but not as many as I wanted, with a wife an kids coming along. In recent years the Exige has hardly been used at all, but has been serviced yearly by Jeremey at Back on Track who are excellent Lotus specialists and I am sure would vouch for it.

Re: Today’s want
I seriously enquired about it but wasn't paying £27500 for a Cat D car. He wouldn't go any lower on the price so i left it and bought the CR instead.

Plus it’s likely to increase in value better than a negative interest savings account etc. On the negative side, I’m not sure it would be more fun the my mx5 without hitting licence losing speeds.

They feel RWD tbh.. only really the extra pull in the wet you really notice, also they are not a winter car, 295 rears unless you bang winters on it are hilarious in snow.duncs500 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 4:42 amYeah, that is a touch. Re: Today’s want
Not really a ‘want’ for myself, but I can’t believe this is only £4K....... what could possibly go wrong?

What could possibly go wrong, lots actually, and often
Re: Today’s want
Probably should start a 'Not want' thread for that The spec indicates it's the standard 996 3.4 engine so I don't think that Sheikh is one of the money-no-object ones. And did the Le Mans cars use Kahn alloys? Or retain the carpeted door cards?Coaster1 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 4:24 pm https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/11304128
Why would any sane person buy this over a 996 GT3?
Re: Today’s want
Yeah just 3.4. At least it’s not Cat-C tiptronic!
Re: Today’s want
I'm a particular fan of the tow strap that comes out at an angle. There's no way that's not going to damage the bumper if ever used
Re: Today’s want
I wonder if it's just a badly modified car whose first owner was a chap in Qatar called Sheikh as it is a pretty popular name in that region...Jobbo wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 5:10 pmProbably should start a 'Not want' thread for that The spec indicates it's the standard 996 3.4 engine so I don't think that Sheikh is one of the money-no-object ones. Re: Today’s want
An elegant fix. Oh no, it isn't.
Re: Today’s want
The whole thing looks a dog's dinner. Whomever did all that damage to what was once a nice 911, needs a sound thrashing!!
