Today's minor annoyance is the stupid dust caps on the jag wheels. The previous owner was a fat bloke and obviously couldn't bend down to check his tyre pressures so he bought some horrible indicator ones that show you when the pressure is low. It's like a shit version of tyre pressue sensors. As they're metal, one has welded itself onto the valve stem. Using a couple of pliers to get a firm grip didn't help. I'll swap the spare on at some point but as that's a P6000, I suspect it's as old as the car.

@scotta Yeah, saw those ones on FB. They seem to have fallen off the PNM Web page though. I don't mind the look of them apart from the black surround, but I'm sure I saw a chrome option when they were on sale.

I don't think I'll replace mine with OEM, they are pretty bad (or my old knackered ones certainly are at least!).

The things some people do (or sometimes fail to do) to their cars never ceases to amaze me.

Metal valve caps are horrible. Essential to smear grease on the threads to avoid that crap.

Jimmy - mole grips are your friend. You’ll probably need a standard cap to go on afterwards though....

Did that on the Q7, it just sheared the valve off.

Normal valves & plastic caps please.

I had to carefully slice a metal cap off the merc with a dremel.

The plastic cap still screwed on with a slot in the thread, I just got them to stick a new valve in when it got new tyres later on.

It must be the metal they're made from. New BMWs came with metal valve caps and they never stuck on.

I don’t think any of the ones I’ve had have been made of “genuine silver metal” right enough.

Had a weird one yesterday. Had "recharged" my dehumidifer bag so was putting it back in the car. The display in the instrument cluster came on when I unlocked it. I was sure that didn't normally happen. Anyway, thought nothing of it, locked car and took the boy for a walk. Noticed yesterday evening that the display was still lit up, so I got in, put the key in and no change. Started the car, and no change. The display was frozen, and wouldn't respond to talk inputs or anything.

I figured it may be a battery issue again - I still haven't had it on for a full condition, but took it out last weekend and all seemed well. I swapped them round last night and gave it 3hrs of charge before bed, and will leave it on all day today (I'm not keen leaving it plugged in overnight as I'm using an extension cable to hook it up. Anyway, the display had gone off by this morning.

On a side note, I'm not convinced the dehumidifier bag is doing much at the moment. Probably just overwhelmed by the temps and total lack of use of the car. I've order a couple more - one for the rear of the car and one for the Superb. I noticed last night that the Superb was frosted up on the INSIDE of the windscreen. Seems a bit schit for a 2yo car - I don't recall ever having had that issue before on any of the young-ish cars we've had.

There's some things that you just don't want to make a feature out of, valves should be as unobtrusive looking as possible, so black plastic is perfect imo.

I agree. Have you ever tried to check the pressure on Alpina alloys? Fucking ridiculous concealed valves under the locking centre caps, whose stem is too short to get a normal inflator onto.
