Used a CTEK for the first time on Sat. Had it on charge for probably 8-9hrs - it was at 4 lights. Car started fine today for a tip run. Cracking.

It needs 12hrs for a full cycle on my bike batteries, so I'd expect a weekend to fully condition a car battery? My CTEK has been great so far, great bit of kit.

A perfect combination is a cheap dumb charger, which just throws current at the battery and then a good C-Tek. As when a battery is completely dead a C-Tek won’t see it and won’t switch on.

I’m on my second but it lasted 7 years of being on 6 months of the year and multiple batteries saved along the way.

Had my first proper poke round the XF today whilst giving it a decent clean.

The interior really is as new, the leather once cleaned and conditioned is all soft and matt. Really came up lovely after a few hours of graft.

Couple of bits I want sorting externally, there's a few stonechips on the front bumper and bonnet if you look for them, they're more noticeable on a black car.

Its generally in very good condition all round.

The stereo is superb, spent a while just listening to songs in it whilst cleaning the interior and the quality really is great. Also found out a 1200w stereo doesn't take long to ensure I got a 'Shut Down in 3 Minutes - Battery Low' message.

Fit LED bulbs in the puddle lights under the mirrors, in the number plate lights and in the footwells, not sure why they weren't LEDs as standard really.

Also put my private plate on it, need new number plates really, but re used the ones I took off my Volvo until lockdown lifts.

Went to take my parents some shopping and went the long way round, in Dynamic mode with the dampers firmed up, it handles superbly for a big car, corners flatter than the S60 did even when lowered, rides much better as well.

Jaguar really do know how to set the balance between ride and handling.

Could really do with an LSD though, I've looked about but no one seems to have fit one before. Will have a look at the CCF and see if a XFR one can be fitted if you change the configuration file.

It should run for longer before shutting down - keep an eye on the battery.
You’re right about the balance with adaptive suspension on the XF - it definitely was a cut above the Bmw and Merc at the time, and anything comparable today.
I remember having dinner with Mike Cross at the launch in Spain (Jan ‘08) and you could really tell that he was happy with how they’d set it up. Dynamic actually over-stiffens for a few seconds when you press it, then slackens off, so that you know it’s engaged.

Also got a lovely letter through from Humberside police which I was expecting, after getting camera van papped in the Volvo on the way to pick the Jag up

69 in a 60, seems I was a lucky boy!

Possibly a SAC or 3 Points, no previous points so I'm hoping for the SAC.

Dpf sensor and a brake pipe for the shafter MOT, also chucking in a new battery. Had a full service as well so hopefully a good year, had the turbo checked out as sounded like it was pinking under full load, but it’s ok.
It’s working harder since remapping.

911 starter getting swapped out next.

Integrated LED lights which cannot be serviced should be banned, they must be an environmental disaster with every car and many houses having them these days.

BMW X5 tailgate light dated from 2016 - the lengths they’ve gone to make it non serviceable is laughable as they’ve plastic welded the led portion despite it not needing to be air tight as it has vent holes on the other side. Utter bastards.

Yeah I think it should ideally have 12hrs. But the car's parked on the opposite side of the driveway to the garage and so I had to have it plugged into an extension cable which I didn't want to leave visible. And I needed to do a tip run the day after. Next weekend I'll probably swap the cars around and then I can leave it plugged in.

Most forces use +10%+9mph for a speed awareness, so you should be ok for one. It should be on zoom still

Needless to say I found cheaper - 100 saving on two cars on last years price incl roadside. Shame as they've been good to date.

Is there a simple way to get software for one of these Delphi VCI devices - everywhere I look seems to have versions of software which will only run on Windows 7 and needs you to do some sort of incantation while dancing round it and dropping pigeon tears on it.

Anything easy for Windows 10 which will just, you know, work?

The Scimitar had a very dodgy looking repair to the neck of the radiator. It didn’t seem to be leaking but I didn’t want to trust it. Removed & sent off to Guildford Radiators for a refurb and they’ve done a lovely job.

Further, on removing the thermostat, the water pump inlet fell apart, it was so rotten there was not enough left to reattach the hose ! A new water pump is on its way.

Scimitars aren't all that common, but mechanically they're a bitsa so most parts are easily available. Either Triumph or Ford parts bins.

I think it depends on the CTEK - the cheaper ones (like my old 3600XS) wouldn't see a dead battery, like you I'd throw an old Halfords charger on to get some juice in it, then condition it with the CTEK. However, I think the newer/better CTEK's (5.0) can deal with dead batteries.

While my old 3600XS is still going (although you really have to mash the button to get it to switch modes) I picked up a cheap Aldi special, and it's actually pretty decent for the cash. Not sure I'd bother paying for a CTEK again.
