ETA: Googling how to change it also brought up a recommendation not to have too much sky visible since the auto exposure will be affected by the proportion of that in frame. So I’ll re-aim it down a bit too.

Yeah, it feels a weird thing to do but it does help, particularly in winter. Having half the frame being a uniform colour will help with compression artifacting, too.

More fancy pants cameras are better for it, but generally, give it less hard work to do in terms of exposure comp and whatnot and the results are better.

Stupid q but have you downloaded the footage or are you just looking in mobile app? Huge diff in quality. Same model as in my misses car I believe and it's great when downloaded.

Battery charger turned up today.

Quality bit of kit, especially for the price.

Wanted to get it fit but its -3 so it got benched for a milder day.

LEDs turned up for number plate lights, puddle lights and footwell lights as well, bargain for 10 quid, I've put them in all my cars for the last couple of years, Auxito 501s off ebay, they're great quality.

Middle one has been upgraded to a forward-facing car seat. Bought one similar to the eldest one's (but he got to choose the colour so went for "cool blue wave" which is apparently the new colour). Unfortunately they're too wide to fit next to each other, so rather than having two that can go in from one side and being able to lift the littlest one in her seat easily, she now has to go in the middle. Don't know what we'll do when she goes to a forward-facing seat (in two-ish years). Can't get much bigger than a Galaxy as a normal car.

7-seater I guess, one of the kids sits in the boot.

It's an option, but it complicates getting in and out, and obviously limits boot space.

Taken the memory card out and viewed on my PC on a big monitor.

It’s better after aiming it lower (more dashboard in shot too) but it’s still not as good as I’d expected at obtaining sharp images of numberplates. Thinking I’ll try 1080p 60FPS rather than the current 1440p 30FPS because it’s more motion blur than focus, I think.

I think that'd be more bits per pixel, sorta - and it'd help reduce motion blur or sure.

I swapped out my A180d AMG hire car as it was hateful. Crap visibility and too small but had a really nice engine/ gearbox match for just pootling about. The interface sucked and it was chintzy and felt like an Essex Hairdressers bedroom.

I now have a 1.0 litre Kia XCeed, it’s wonderful!!!!

Steering not great, gearbox a bit springy and the ride is firmer than you’d expect but the engine is an absolute joy. It’s begging to be revved and has a nice little note change at 5000rpm and before all that has a 3 cylinder warble which reminds me of when I drilled the air box on my Peugeot 20 years ago. It’s actually making me use the gears and enjoy it. Plus with actual wheels with sidewalks I’m not worried about potholes or bad surfaces etc I can just read the road and make smooth quick progress.

I’ll try to get a sound file at some point.

I’m learning that the 4.8 engine is a lot easier to work on than the 4.5. For the cam sensors, it used to be yet another intake-off job. On the 4.8 they’re on the top of the cam covers near the bulkhead. A single T40 bolt on each. Ten minute job

The old ones are dated ‘07 so presumably the originals. Crank sensor is a bit more fiddly and means getting under the car. I might wait for some dry weather.

Alarm went off on the car just now, so popped out to have a look. Sitting in the car, the drivers door ajar light went on and off a few times and the window did it's thing too (drop/rise).

I'm guessing the cold, and the melt now ongoing might have caused it a bit of fright. Letting the car warm up a bit and giving the door a few good slams, and running the central locking a dozen times and it now hasn't done it for fifteen minutes.

Hopefully that's that, as at a glance the door actuator looks like a pain to get to - basically a full strip of the door, remove the sides airbag etc. That would be tedious as all fuck this time of year with no garage to work in...

Edit: Yes, I know, it *can* be a body control module that causes this, but the car has been cleared of snow literally since the snow fell, so it's not like meltwater will have flooded anything.

I'll drag the INPA or whatever VM out tomorrow, hook it up to the car and have a closer look I suppose. Looks like I'll be chasing ghosts in the system, bleeeerrgh.

Why leave unlocked? No alarm turn off button? Even on most old stuff if you lock it by the key it just locks but doesn't arm the alarm.

It also may be worth drying the car out, sitting inside it idling like you said you’ve been doing doesn’t create much airflow or temperature.
