Those are my photos, thought it would be a nice surprise for someone to stumble across
I had the black 205 GTi, Skip Brown Tuned with LSD, I lived about 10 miles from Matt Cony.
The track day was Anglesey not Elvington.
I have no pics from that gathering...unless it was the same as below different point after a few left and joined? Not me, sorry.Swervin_Mervin wrote: Thu Jan 14, 2021 9:36 pm Nick - did you come along once on a meet of Clios in Derbyshire? I organised it with the local Cliosport guys back when it was mostly mk1 16vs and Williams, and I remember Matt Cony being there in his R32. ISTR there were 2-3 of you who ended up doing the route in the opposite direction to the rest of us!
I was at that Anglesey day with Ben, MattH and Co. There's pics somewhere of Gary launching that Mitsubishi sideways at every chance, the man gave zero FsNGRhodes wrote: Thu Jan 14, 2021 9:32 pm
Ben in his 106 (bumped into him at loads of track days) and GaryH in his Hire/company/work car as his Golf was being fixed/upgraded.
I only specifically remember Matt Cony and his R32, but can recall that there were others with him, just I can't remember any details!NGRhodes wrote: Thu Jan 14, 2021 9:45 pmNot me, sorry.Swervin_Mervin wrote: Thu Jan 14, 2021 9:36 pm Nick - did you come along once on a meet of Clios in Derbyshire? Was it the other Matt who had a Blue 172 (he later bought a vx220) ?
That pic of your Corolla was the same day at Anglesey, Garys Mitsubishi is behind
Is that Mr Ritchie's Williams at the back right of shot?Matty wrote: Thu Jan 14, 2021 9:18 pmI have no pics from that gathering...unless it was the same as below different point after a few left and joined? I did my first track day at a Toyota owners Club day in Lincs with you Jon. Possibly Binbrook?mr_jon wrote: Thu Jan 14, 2021 8:55 pm Yeah, smashed a biker up pretty bad IIRC? I just think do it on a race track these days. I remember driving very quickly once and finding a woman on a horse on a blind bend. Luckily nothing happened. It made me a better driver.
I was at the Elvington one, though was too inexperienced to try the track as young 'un.
Im pretty much the same these days. With the cornering forces that the lotus can pull there is no way i would push it that hard on the road. Also i know that if im on the lock stops round a corner on track there isn't a tractor coming the other way!mr_jon wrote: Thu Jan 14, 2021 8:55 pm Yeah, smashed a biker up pretty bad IIRC? It was his company car and he was leaving the firm the next day or similar. I remember the metal banding was clearly showing on the tyres at the end of the day.Barry wrote: Thu Jan 14, 2021 10:21 pmI was at that Anglesey day with Ben, MattH and Co. (My Elvington comment was regarding the pic of my Corolla)
IMO it's perfectly possible to drive in a way that you can have a spirited drive but be prepared for any eventuality and be able to stop. I've been on plenty of meets and trips without incident. I can imagine there was a bit more youthful exuberance in the early days mind you.scotta wrote: Fri Jan 15, 2021 11:15 amIm pretty much the same these days. Was that the incident near Hartside Cafe?speedingfine wrote: Thu Jan 14, 2021 8:44 pm Yeah put me off too. As did the post on PH about the ITR driver's time in the slammer after an accident at a meet.
