Few day old article below showing how behind most of Europe is. Funny as always that the Beeb couldn't bring themselves to put the comparison with the UK on the same page. Still hurts I see. Last time I checked we were Europe. Perhaps they should have entitled the article "EU's slow start...instead" - no, also too painful?

I don't think I've ever driven in Europe, so still doesn't do much for me... if you can make use of the up to 90 days in 180 at some point, anyone want to try it out? It says on the spot fines still can be handed out though.

I’ve never been through France without being flashed by at least one camera but I’ve never had a ticket sent to me in the U.K so I’ve always found that surprising (same with my dad).
We both never run the GB stickers though so maybe that helps!

@GG. - you say rolling back DAC6 is a good thing? It is cross border financial transaction reporting. So the plan is to move to the Worldwide standard instead. I cannot see any info on whether DAC6 is more stringent set of rules as the OECD MDRs?

I am curious as one of the many "project Fear" mantras was Brexshit was essentially to allow very rich people to avoid paying tax.

Not trying to be smart, but having asked you many times since 2016 for a benefit of Brexshit, it is great to see you actually commit to one.

Call me cynical but reducing reporting obligations on financial services doesn't seem a huge benefit to many? In simple terms, what does it mean?

You know we were bound by all their rules until 31 December 2020? That was called the transition period, when we were out but had to abide by everything.

Even GG acknowledges that there is no rule preventing EU states from ordering vaccines, it's just 'against the spirit'. A bit like the Derbyshire police trying to enforce guidance, not the law

DAC 6 was a stupid system akin to a regulatory hammer to crack a nut (think of how GDPR works...) whose scope was far too broad and required analysis of lots of cross-border transactions that were not tax evasion. The plan is that this will be pared back to something which doesn't take up lots of people's time filling out reports but still catches arrangements that perpetuate tax evasion (seemingly on the basis of the OECD model).

Its not something you can easily attach a £ figure to but clearly not having people divert time from economically productive tasks to fill out unnecessary paperwork is clearly a good thing.

Thank you. I know from working in the bank that some things we had to do, really did seem to be a box ticking exercise and have dubious benefits.

I do laugh at the last sentence though as almost all stories surrounding the joy of Brexit reality cite exactly just how many forms to fill in and regs to now follow.

It seems to suggest that because the vaccines 'on the side' were ordered after the commitment not to do so made between all EU countries as part of the block wide scheme, that they will get them but only after the EUs orders have been satisfied...

Also as for vaccines, we could've used the emergency authorisation even within the EU. The EU27 just chose to wait and work together on authorisation rather than use their own privileges to authorise like we did.

So how long into the future do you think you can pretend to be an EU member but not do anything they do?

You're basically saying let's be part of the block but do everything on our own. I guess its the Cameroonian vision of EU membership but it wasn't effective in getting us out of doing the stuff we didn't want to, nor will it be sustainable forevermore as they will move to majority voting on a lot of matters (such as the joining of schemes like this, tax rates, etc.) to stop people "cherry picking".

Yeah I know but I suppose my point was that Jan 2020 was the point that we could say "Adhering to Spirt" no longer needed to apply and Dec 31st was when it absolutely didn't.
