I remember in the old days, sitting on the bus in London, cursing as my knees smashed the back of the seats. There was only 1 row of seats towards the back of the bus by the fire exit windows which had enough leg room.

If it makes you feel any better, there's probably a correlation between the amount of virus buzzing about in your body (and being shed through your airways) and level of symptoms. So if you're not feeling too bad, you're not going to be as infectious, so hopefully those around you might have been spared?

I know it'll be heavily caveated with everyone being different, but typically when are the worst symptoms? Eg. Will I deteriorate for a number of days? Or do people generally get hit hard early on if they're going to get it bad?

I think I've got hotter over today, but I don't really feel much worse. I just don't really know what's happening inside my body... I usually have a pretty strong immune system.

Don't worry, I won't sue you if I get worse / die.

My mrs had symptoms for a couple of weeks which were being treated as a chest infection, gradually getting worse before she had a fever for a few days, then 5 days in hospital.

Usually you spike a temperature as your body realises there’s something nasty going on inside you. Viruses have evolved to work best at normal body temperature, your immune system knows this so it’s first defence is to raise your temperature to attempt to kill it off. Usually once your temperature starts to return to normal as well as other symptoms easing you’re past the worst of it.

Tricky question as it is so variable. Most of the symptoms in the first week are driven by the virus replicating before your immune system really gets a handle on it. Cough, chills, change in taste/smell, general flulike stuff first 5-7 days, with increasing fatigue over 7 days. Severity of symptoms varies from person to person a lot but usually symptoms are peaking around day 5. After day 7, things should be starting to settle down but will probably still be easily fatigued.

In most people, that's it. In a small number of people there is a second phase where the virus is actually dying off but the immune system becomes over-active in days 7-10 - this is where you can get symptoms like shortness of breath because of lung inflammation. Again, a lot of people will shrug this off by about day 14 but in a small proportion blood oxygen levels will dip which is the scary bit.

I know that last bit doesn't sound very reassuring! But I would emphasize that most people only get the first (viral response) phase and the second phase are in the minority.

Yeah, from my boss probably. He was sick a few days before me and tested positive yesterday as well. Dunno where he got it though, he's not the kind of guy to break the rules.

I tried to be as careful as possible at work, but it obviously wasn't enough.

Not just in the supermarket though! But yes, if you stand much above 180ish cm then things tend to get a bit more difficult.

It's for this very reason that our London office & factory have had a permanent face mask rule since this kicked off, along with one way systems, split shifts an extra canteen, temp checks, etc.... Thus far we have had no issues with anyone catching it at work. Also making sure the staff were aware that their money will always be paid regardless of how many time they might have to self isolate. That has stopped anyone bring it in from fear of not being paid.

It sounds even worse down South now. Spreading like wildfire! I'm in no hurry to go back for a while and am very glad I live in a nice rural area.
