New Years Resolutions?

Post by Beany »

A side thought really, as I don't think NYRes are worth anything more than any other decision one makes, but it's a useful demarcation point to decide what you plan to do for the year ahead I suppose.

I have to get a new job. With that will almost certainly come a pay bump, which will mostly go towards clearing old debts (which are well under control but making me financially tighter than I like).

It'll also almost certainly come with a company that understands what rotas and cover is/are, so that I'm not on call 24/7 all the time, which is definitely impacting me more than I'd like to admit to myself.

I mean, sort those two things out and I can start pretending I'm an actual person again. Imagine that.

Spent most of this afternoon drafting changes to my CV and making the utter shite I've been doing the last four years sound vaguely career relevant....quite the challenge, but I managed to avoid making it an actual work of fiction so that's always good.

I expect you lot will have rather less low-level, high impact resolutions to make because you're all vaguely sensible for the most part

Sold it last year with a view to being sensible for a few years, I'm half way through a lease on a Golf GTI.

Have a day out in London with my dog and go in on the train.

Take my wife to Monaco.

Take my boys up Snowdon as that was scuppered this year.

Dave!

I have to get fit again. I was half way there before lockdown, but since then I've not set foot back in the gym. I've noticed a huge deterioration in my strength too, and my back has started to play up again. I'm 45 this year, so reckon this is my final 5 year slot to get fit for 50, otherwise I'm stuck with this belly forever.
Cheers.

Lose a couple of stones, find a new job, move down south permanently (shivers).

I really notice my back playing up when I'm out of shape. That should be all the encouragement I need. That, and 50 looming large on the horizon 😟

No massive plans, see what the year holds.

Ideally find a new job, but given everything going on at the moment I don’t think it’s a great time to jump from fairly secure employment.

Keep the ‘sud on the road, stop it rotting away, use it as much as possible, don’t let it turn into another project...

Get something else on the fleet back on the road. The mrs wants her golf finished and sold, I’m quite tempted to stick a 1.8t in it and make it my daily driver and sell the mito (probably won’t ever happen, she doesn’t know this either yet ) the biggest stumbling block is I’d really want AC and don’t know how viable that is as I doubt more than a handful of uk cars ever had it.
Cheers, Harry

I seem to have put on half a stone over Christmas, which has never happened before, so time to get serious with that.

Did a 5k jog this morning which I think is the first time my heart rate has gone over 100 since March.

Might keep that up, we’ll see.

I've put a bit on - noticing my belt is a bit tighter than usual - which is odd as I've not really been eating much more than usual.

Well, other than the brie and chocolate.

....ah.

Might have to start walking to work again for a few weeks and have a noodle-heavy diet for a few weeks and burn that some of that off.

I planned to lose half a stone in 2020, only one stone to go.
