Re: OV9 CPOTY 2020
There aren't that many details to share Jon. It's my seventh Porsche in a row and I constantly disappoint the dealers and fail to pull my weight for the company by not choosing much in the way of options. I tend to buy cars for what they are, not for what they could be if you spent another £20k! The extras here are Miami Blue paint and seat belts, a smokers kit (even though I've never smoked or allowed smokers in my cars) and a paint protection treatment. I'm a man of simple tastes. I'll try and post better photos at some point but it took ages to get that little image up - including help from my missus who worked in I.T. for 34 years!
As to the car's poor performance on ECOTY, apart from the usual (valid) high gearing comment, they seem to conclude that it's very good at everything and therefore it doesn't shine enough in any one area to stand out. It's a 'fault' I can put up with. For me it's the best combination of performance, style and practicality in its price range. I'm sure the M2 would be fun, but to me it's an ordinary car made special, rather than a special car that can also do the ordinary when needed.
Re: OV9 CPOTY 2020
I ordered an S1 Elise in 1996 and had to wait 10 months for it to be delivered and I absolutely adored it. Bet Lotus wishes there was still that kind of demand now. It remains the car I set my record distance driven in one day (960 miles from the Dordogne to Derby). I have tinnitus these days... funny that!duncs500 wrote: Mon Dec 28, 2020 6:47 pm If there had been an ECOTY in 1996 I'm pretty sure the S1 Elise would have finished higher than a measly 7th, therefore I'm going to throw my hat into the ring for this!![]()
Re: OV9 CPOTY 2020
Sounds awesome to me Paul, and many congratulations. I've lusted after one since Harry Metcalfe's recent vid on the GTS. I've only ever been in one Cayman - a '55 plate S owned by a friend of mine. It felt sublime just from the passenger seat. Out of the roundabouts of Peterborough he could pull 100 yards from me in my CLK55, such was the balance and grip. They now have an I-Pace and a late, last gen Boxster S in bright yellow, so an excellent fast fleet.
The 911 Turbo S suffered the same 'flaw' in the evo test didn't it. One of those would also be incredible, of course, but as you say, a much higher price point.

And as Dan suggests, if we're being hasty I'll throw my Swift Sport into the mix. Just read the reviews. Not sure where it finished in ecoty in its year though, maybe second to a Porsche of some kind

I'm only joking really, it's an amazing car Paul and I would love one regardless of where it finished (although I can't see myself parting with the Elise for any car even if money was no object).PaulJ wrote: Tue Dec 29, 2020 3:52 pm As to the car's poor performance on ECOTY, apart from the usual (valid) high gearing comment, they seem to conclude that it's very good at everything and therefore it doesn't shine enough in any one area to stand out. Thats what I like about M cars - they’re just cars, they do everything a normal car should....Sundayjumper wrote: Tue Dec 29, 2020 5:17 pmThat is exactly how I felt about my M3.PaulJ wrote: Tue Dec 29, 2020 3:52 pm ...it's an ordinary car made special, rather than a special car that can also do the ordinary when needed.

Interestingly in Autocar the M2 finished second from last!PaulJ wrote: Tue Dec 29, 2020 3:52 pm As to the car's poor performance on ECOTY, apart from the usual (valid) high gearing comment, they seem to conclude that it's very good at everything and therefore it doesn't shine enough in any one area to stand out.
