Not watched tonight's yet, but yeah it's been fairly decent this year.mik wrote: Thu Dec 10, 2020 9:22 pm I’ve never really followed a series closely before, but some of this pro stuff is teh awesumes.

Jono is a bit of a plonker, aye, <wink wink>
Re: Anyone watching Pro Masterchef?
Oh the winkin is awful!
I flip between “wow I would feckin love that” and “I couldn’t eat that”. Invariably when the chefs/judges say “the <red meat> is cooked perfectly” I couldn’t eat it, but then I am *that guy* who sends back meat in Michelin starred restaurants to get it cooked a bit more. I’d say 75% of the time I have done so at least one other person at the table has asked for theirs to be done too, but were too embarrassed to ask.

Santosh ftw.
Re: Anyone watching Pro Masterchef?
Hoorah!
The right top-4 imho
Re: Anyone watching Pro Masterchef?
Agreed, albeit Philli is relatively annoying. Santosh or Bart for the win.
Re: Anyone watching Pro Masterchef?
To be fair to Johnno, his food was really challenging but then again, the great Chef’s always are. Ferran Adrià and the like challenged the ‘convention’ when they moved further and further from what was seen as ‘classic’. They then established a new classic.
There was a moment when he presented his dish where Monica suggested a change to his cake element and he nodded with a look “I respect your opinion, but in this case, you’re wrong. I’m right and you just don’t understand why”
I suspect this isn’t the last we’ll hear from him.
Bart, Alex and Santosh are standout for the final as Philli has been out of her depth for a few rounds but pulling it out of the bag. Johnno would have made a better 4th finalist.
Bart’s the obvious winner - he’s simply exceptional, even next to Alex who’s a cocky fuck but backs it up with brilliant dishes. Personally, Santosh’s food is the stuff I’d like to eat but not sure if he’ll win.
I have my doubts whether Bart can match the levels he’s set when tasked with making 10 or 12 plates of food, rather than 2. I suspect Alex and Santosh will have zero issue with this but the ‘Private Chef’ thing always stuck out. He has worked in kitchens so I suppose we’ll see in the final. Not sure of the format but in previous years, they’ve cooked for 30+

It’s Johno’s winky I shagged your sister last night cockiness (and his stoopid 90% trouser length) that annoyed me. He was really brave and the fact his bizarre combos all hit the mark therefore grated further - inability to fault his cooking (although his last dish looked uncomfortably close to a shit covered in glitter) made me dislike him more.
In saying that I’ve been served a fois gras creme brûlée with a side sauce of can’t remember that was interesting for one bite, but nobody at the table could finish the dish.
And yeah - the one whose food I’d most like to try is Santosh.

Can't say I've ever had anything that left-field to be fair...mik wrote: Wed Dec 16, 2020 8:41 am In saying that I’ve been served a fois gras creme brûlée with a side sauce of can’t remember that was interesting for one bite, but nobody at the table could finish the dish.

Santosh for me as well.mik wrote: Wed Dec 16, 2020 8:41 am It’s Johno’s winky I shagged your sister last night cockiness (and his stoopid 90% trouser length) that annoyed me. Jono was a pillock. I don't think he's one of the genius types - I think he just thinks he is because he's done a few stints in those types of restaurant. The greats wouldn't be so dismissive of their peers - they'd be respectful and take on board comments where merited precisely because they want to become the best.
And how they didn't criticise him for the presentation of that last dish I don't know, especially given the grief they gave Dave on the minor aspects of his presentation that weren't right. It looked like a badly wrapped kit kat, and even without all that crap on it it would've looked incredibly dull compared to every other dish presented.

His completely deadpan “complete decadence” quip when serving it did make me laugh.
Most of his dishes just all seemed a bit too try-hard.

If you've seen "Opps, I dropped the Lemon Tart", you'd be amazed what can pass as acceptable presentation these days...Swervin_Mervin wrote: Wed Dec 16, 2020 9:50 am And how they didn't criticise him for the presentation of that last dish I don't know, especially given the grief they gave Dave on the minor aspects of his presentation that weren't right. Jeez - Santosh's cooking. What I would give to taste half of what he's cooked, especially that dish he served to the bigwig chefs.
Re: Anyone watching Pro Masterchef?
100% that.
The leaf-wrapped lamb reminded me of Greek/Turkish stuff (that actually has Lebanese origins) but turned up to Twelveington. WANT!

Re: Anyone watching Pro Masterchef?
Enjoyed that.
Alex’s stuff looked superb - fair play. Santosh received some of the only negative criticism he’s had - possibly a shame the competition format seems to wipe the slate clean and judge everything on their final flourish? (Although lambs brain? C’mon - where is the vomit smiley
)
Regardless of the final standings, I can’t see any of them suffering from this.
Hoping Santosh opens a restaurant - would definitely book for next time we are in Lahndahn.

Yeah I really enjoyed that. I suspected Alex might nick it as he's been on the ascendency, quietly, for a while. His looked flawless, and I would have loved to have dived into it.
As for Santosh - it was his to lose and I wonder whether he just tried too much in the end. But if he opened up a place I would definitely be looking to visit. I don't recall anyone cooking Indian/eastern cuisine on the Pro show and getting even remotely as far as he has. He demonstrated the massive breadth of variety that the cuisine encompasses
