To be fair, average warm hatches are pretty quick these days...

Yeah, even bog standard TDs are plenty pokey. I mean, my Mondeo had gobs of midrange shove before it was remapped - and in the right gear, at the right revs etc post remap would probably keep up with the 330, for a few seconds at least.

The last fifteen years has been pretty surprising in terms of the performance of 'cooking' models.
