Not entirely fleet news, but due to a car accident I seem to have cracked a rib.

I was trying to get to the rear wiper motor in the Porsche. Thanks to fixed buckets seats & a roll cage this turns out to be impossible for someone of my size.

Yes, with 3.6 diff ratio to my knowledge. My old SLR was 3.39.

I spent about 6 hours cleaning the merc on Sunday.

I had given it a quick sponge wash every couple of months to stop it going green but that's no substitute for a proper pressure wash down all the gaps and joints. Even took the rear lights off to tip out some dead flys and spiders and cleaned the backs of them and the bodywork hidden behind 

By the end on it my felt like I was going snow blind after staring at it in the sun for so long. Photos are straight off the phone, not edited in any way other than a resize, and the car hasn't even had a polish or wax, just bare ultra clean paint. Almost feel guilty putting it into regular use.


Interesting seeing the difference between the two silvers, BMW titan silver has an almost satin sheen with both yellow and blue tones in it, almost giving a pearl effect in some lights. The Mercedes brilliant silver is a pure crisp silver with virtually zero colour in it. Compact had a weeks worth of summer dust on it here but it gives you the idea.


I need to fit some parking sensors for the mrs, I bought one of the hidden wire ones but don't think I'll be able to use it as after looking at a few pics there's a hard plastic bumper carrier that's welded to and covers most of the back of the bumper cover so may end up having to use a drill through version instead and try and get the positioning the same as on cars which had it from the factory.

Oh, and stuck the m3 wheels off the e46 onto the compact for a bit of euro style dish. For some reason I never really liked them on my m3, but think they looked good on the e46 and now the compact

Definitely liking the M3 wheels on the Compact

My Dad had that shape of Merc, but a convertible, for a few years. It was a nice car to cruise about in although Mercedes' insistence on cramming all of the functions onto one stalk did my head in. Just the lack of symmetry was bad enough let alone operating it.

Yes, seems a bit odd to me too. Combined lights, indicator and wiper stalk, plus cruise control stalk on the left, nothing on the right just seems a bit weird.

I haven't figured out the menu system / steering wheel buttons either, none of it seems very intuitive.

It's definitely a nice car to waft around in, but goes well when you stab the throttle. Certainly not a sports car though.

Ouch indeed, I will be removing the rear wiper myself shortly, ruins the back end!

My FIL had the 240 version - 2.7 V6 IIRC. I couldnt get it to wheelspin....nice and wafty though.

They're from the era when nerds all had super intrusive traction control which couldn't ever be turned off aren't they?

I've not tried driving like a mental but have had the orange triangle flashing several times on brisk junction exits.

Well, my bucket seats don't adjust or recline in any way, and my roll cage has a substantial "X" brace. Here's a pic:

So I was trying to crawl over the top of the seats and through the top part of the "X", and stretching to reach the wiper motor, and felt a slight "thud" at the bottom the right side of my rib cage where my weight was resting on the edge of the seat. It didn't hurt much at the time but got progressively worse through Sunday until I couldn't drive properly.

It's now fine as long as I don't: cough, sneeze, laugh, belch, yawn, breathe deeply, twist, lift stuff, or move suddenly in any way. Great.

I broke one almost 15 years ago. It's never fixed properly, still occasionally hurts. Good luck with that.
