Thought this might be a nice weekly thing to do with my dad as he loves his Whisky.

I also have an nas travel edition glenfiddich that isn’t sold any more which is as good as either.

Jura 10 years old also makes for a decent drop if you open it and leave it to breath for a number of months.

Although these days I much prefer bourbons. Particularly partial to bullett or jd rye (quite hard to find and really good considering normal jd is like petrol).

The two bourbons also go really well with coke (must be original full fat, no cheap ones or diets as they are equally important to bring out the flavour) as they enhances the caramel and sweetness of both. The other one to try is makers mark neat with just a cube of ice as that also brings out the caramel.

In the past I’d usually rock up to duty free and start trying different ones when I was travelling on business with the intention of buying a bottle if I found one I liked. I wouldn’t mind trying that though. Me and my mate always like to try a few different ones to compare, might be worth a crack. It is good getting 4 or 5 round the table and just tasting. I think they miss a trick with leaving out bourbons though.

I don’t mix scotch it’s not right (unless it’s bells to take away the taste) but it works with bourbon and needs to be tried.

£24/mo for 160ml seems pricey to me - that's £112.50/75ml. Obvs I don't know what 's in the boxes, but the image on the site appears to show some fairly mainstream stuff from what I can make out

Yeah it just seemed a bit of a change and easy to try new stuff, probably not the cheapest way of doing things, not bothered about paying more a month if there is better about.

Whisky is like the wine world, you can quickly get carried away worrying about tiny improvements and spending a fortune. I'm quite happy with simple stuff like Talisker or Monkey Shoulder, and occasionally I'll add ice, see if I care

Have you tried Master of Malt or Drinks by the Dram? I think they both do clubs - probably the same club in reality as I think MoM teamed up with/bought the latter a while ago.

Higher proof stuff does need water dropping in - I only know from being taught by better drinkers than me - and yes one did run a pub and go blind.

I went off whisky fairly comprehensively after going to a whisky tasting evening. I tried about 35, many very nice too, but by the end of it my mouth just tasted of whisky. All I wanted was something other than whisky. Even now, nearly 5 years on, I have a vivid recollection of the taste in my mouth.

Still, the chap who invited me tried about 60. We found him later in the evening with the St John Ambulance people

If I'm at my parents we just normally drink Glenmorangie 15 or Macallan, nowt fancy.

My dad loved a decent whisky. I used to buy him special stuff - which he always kept “for good” and there were about 20 unopened bottles of malt there when he died. Unfortunately I can’t go near the stuff - so it all got given away.
