XBox Series S

Post by Simon »

Now official:

Incredible price too, if it's just the same as the X but with no Blu-Ray drive.

Yes, because they’ll screw you over in the online games store unless you’re happy with the gamepass subscription.

Shame they didn’t do a “299” mic drop like Sony did with the original playstation launch :D

So how many new Xboxes are coming this gen and what one is the one to actually get excited about and buy?

I guess one of them will also be a twofer with a 4K blu ray player in it?
Cheers,

Mike.

They're doing a finance option like they do with phones - you can get a Series X for £35/month including game pass. Seems the S will be £20 a month for the same.

Seems like a great idea to get over the hurdle of the entry price for many.

I bet they’ll sell loads like that. Helps people jump on the next generation early without a massive up front cost.

Actually makes sense when a console can be expected to have a several year lifespan.

It’s not the same spec as the Series X though; no native 4K, and apparently not as powerful as the One X. Will still presumably play the same games as the X. When there are some 😂

I thought that upon seeing the leaks.

Saw this video last night which helps explain it a bit better than the tweet.

I think the bigger thing to take away is the 120 fps at 1440p. Most of the current gen are 30 / 60 fps. The newer consoles also have ray tracing (not that I've ever experienced that) in something that costs £299 is pretty impressive I think.

I still think I'll get the Series X version though. I don't really like the lack of drive and the black vent on top looks a bit meh to me.

Like the current Xbox One S is to the Xbox One X. Just less powerful and no drive. I hear the 'S' only has a 512GB SSD rather than 1TB too.

£20 a month for 24 months for a £300 console doesn’t seem like a good deal to me.

Not everyone can stump up £300 just like that.
People buy phones in exactly the same manner. I'm not saying it's financially smart but there you go.
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.

I used to get quite excited about the launch of a new console, but since embracing PC gaming I've rather gone off the boil with these little boxes :|

It’s no longer going to have exclusive games so there’s really no point in having one if you’re a PC gamer. With the cross platform support you can join in with your friend who is on Xbox whilst you’re on PC too so really not much point.

New Series X confirmed as £449 in the UK. That's a good price and I'll pick one up.

Is that just for the console or does it include game pass too?

Replace "console" with "car" and drop some more zero's on and I'd say the same thing about cars. People still do it in droves though.

if a game pass ultimate is £100 a year, then it's actually saving money against buying outright if it was £20 a month.

Why wouldn't you be happy with gamepass? It's a great service, I haven't actually bought a game in months.

I have a feeling that the S will be missing some other features so I'm still expecting to stump up for the X series, £449 is still cheaper than I was expecting it to be. Will be happy to add £200 to the new telly fund if it turns out I'm wrong though

I didn’t say it’s not good, it’s just if you want something that’s not on gamepass the online games store prices are a joke. I have gamespass and still buy other games.
