Of course you don't have plans to tune it, you're on holiday.

How about summat Yank (and if not an actual 'box maybe bits for the ZF)?

Stop it !! :D

The idea of using a completely different gearbox, making it fit, and then trying to get get it to talk to the engine etc. is just waaaaay off the scale. Not even going to think about it.

There's various suppliers of upgraded / billet components for the ZF box. That's a more sensible approach. Input & intermediate shafts appear to be the weak points. But I can see that being a slippery slope; there's a significant amount of labour getting the gearbox out so the "while we're in there..." temptation could ramp up very rapidly. The valve body refresh looks quite easy to do at home and will run to about £500 in parts. I should start there.

And having thought a little more, the first thing ought to be getting it on a dyno and seeing if we're anywhere near the book figures. If the engine's not up to spec that should be the first priority. Probably a humblebrag here but the engine could be 100bhp down and only making ~400, and I'm not sure I'd actually notice it. I don't have a proper frame of reference as to what's normal here.

1500nm according to this very brief article the gearbox is modified.

FiL bought a 2011 Subaru Forester last week from a local trader. 2L petrol, AWD (I think), basic spec and overall in good condition but I'm not a fan of the colour. We're waiting for the 1st Sept to tax it and then I can go for a test drive. The only annoying thing about it so far is the central locking. There's only one button on the key. One press only unlocks the driver's door, you need to press twice in an awkward manner to open all the other doors. More often than not, you lock the car by accident  . Imagine if it was pissing down with rain and you've got a crying baby  .

He bought it so that "everyone" can use it because SiL has a newborn and our's is due in November. But long story short, SiL's husband keeps fannying about buying a family car, he's totally set on buying a Kia Sportage but it MUST be black, petrol, auto GT-line, no more than 4 years old, no more than £17k. No compromise!!! . He sold his C-class coupe before lockdown and their A3 is not big enough, so they're using my wife's A4 estate. They don't seem that grateful cos it's a granddad Subaru but a car is a car especially when it's free ffs  .

Drivers door lock only is an “anti hijack” feature most cars with this are configurable to just unlock all if you prefer.

I don’t know Forresters but this was a dash menu option on our Disco 3 and 4 and the VXR8 too I think.

whats the tax on them? £240 Per year or £305? Saving about £12-18! Your FiL is a proper tight fit!

He is indeed, only because MiL holds all the money as he's a serial buyer/hoarder.

Found these keys in the car. Unusual “X” cross-section. No identifying markings, and I’ve not found anything on the car that matches. Any ideas what they’re from ??

Tow bar or roof bars would be my guess.

It's from 1969, spent 10 years in the military before it got decommissioned. FiL bought it over 15 years ago. It was our wedding car in the woods.

Knowing it can be quickly flat packed is very very cool.
