Re: Cycling Thread

Closest we've had in recent years was 2020 when Pogacar got the better of Roglic on the penultimate stage TT and took the race lead.

Re: Cycling Thread

I enjoyed that! Great crowds, good to see there were no accidents. The wet weather added another dimension - as Ned and David said, WvA was able to take more risks on the downhill wet bits - as well as having less to lose than TP at that point (he still had to finish, right, to win the GC, even ...

Re: Cycling Thread

It was originally 120km or so, now down to 95km-ish.

It does lend itself to more attacking racing, especially between Red bull & PostalNI, but UAE & Visma will probably want to try and control things

Still, should be a good watch again

Re: Cycling Thread

I reckon Lipo & Onley, and Roglic to an extent fighting it out as well. There's still the Col du Pre & Cormet de Roseland first, so UAE and Visma going full gas up those will thin things out pretty quickly leaving the leaders to fight it out to the finsh if they want. Will be interesting to see ...

Re: Cycling Thread

Shortened stage today, reckon it'll be flat out racing to the finish.

Re: Cycling Thread

He properly took him out.

One of the comments suggested a baton through the spokes would be the better option

Couple of big mountain days coming up, Vingegaard will be going on the attack for sure.

Re: Cycling Thread

Was Wout van Aert looking across going 'damn, you beat me', or 'WTF are you celebrating like that for, it's only third, mate'?

Re: Cycling Thread

Cheers. Did the Hautacam and Tourmalet a couple of years ago as well, so I enjoyed watching those this year.

I recon Pog will want the stage win on Ventoux as a minimum, it'd be an iconic image round the last bend and up to the summit in the yellow jersey.

Re: Cycling Thread

Rode up it a couple of weeks ago, can confirm it takes a bit of effort. 🥵

I think Pogacar will want more stage wins if he can which will possibly take more out of Vingegaard. If he stays fit and competitive then Cavs record will probably go, as will the record for overall victories.

And how crazy ...

Re: Cycling Thread

Spoiler
Attacking at the base of the last climb isn't the usual approach.

Gotta love the way he races.

Re: Cycling Thread

Hard to tell, UAE seemed to be happy to do some of the riding yesterday, despite being a rider down, and Pogacar was happy to have a little dig at the end, but I think they'll be happy going into the rest day without the yellow jersey and all the commitments that come with it

I like Healy, it was good to see him win a stage last week and be in the mix again today.

Re: It’s time for another forum cycle/vehicle disagreement

It was the Tour of Flanders a few years ago, so one of Flagship races at the highest levels!

The UCI is weird with the punishments they hand out, although crashes caused like that are rare you don't generally get punished for causing a crash. Wearing the wrong length socks can get you a fine though

Re: Estate Agent fees - what is everyone paying?

We're paying 0.75% here (Hove) for our sale that's going through at the moment. Some were asking for 1%+vat, but were willing to haggle when they knew someone else was cheaper, and like you we have what should be a desirable house for the area

Re: Cycling Thread

I think the bike tech isn't just about weight/aero, but also efficiency. I'd suspect today's bikes are a lot stiffer which improves power transfer and drive trains far more efficient than back in the day

Training and nutrition are also a lot better allowing athletes to perform better.

I've ...
