If I had room for the Beetle I would have kept it as air cooled VWs do get under your skin. The good thing is that the values haven't gone silly so I could always buy another in the future. And I would agree that it isn't a car you'd choose to go on a long road trip but just put putting around in it ...

I decided to test the water by advertising the Beetle to see if I'd get any interest, deposit left less than a day after the advert went live and I've got six interested buyers in reserve! Collection on Saturday and then the Caterham hunt can step up a gear.

No attemps either and parked in Sheffield every day next to the very dodgy Hyde Park flats. The alarm did go off once and the police turned up, traced my ownership and called home, my mum answered and let work know who sent me off to check it out, all ok

I sometimes wish I could hang onto cars for a longer period but I start geting the car searching itch after a couple of years. I kept cars longer when I was younger as I didn't have the disposable income and there wasn't the choice there is now! I think the longest I have kept a car was six years ...

I'd noticed one of the front tyres on the Beetle had some very fine cracks on the tyre wall so time for a replacement. On closer examination it's dated 1999
