That pretty fairly describes what happened in Ross on Wye a couple of weeks ago - the roads disintegrated in a rain storm:

Re: New 911
Oh dear - I hope this was just a glitch in translation because I really don't think the battery is actually a flywheel:

Re: Speed Limiters - July '24
I'm reminded of my Audi misreading the vandalised 20mph sign in the Welsh valleys as 80mph and giving it some beans unexpectedly  Tried the A-road I mentioned this morning; I put the predictive cruise control on but turned off the lane keeping because it doesn't like some of the tighter bends. ...

Re: FAO BMW i3-istas
I'd probably also want an i3 over an e-Mini too; I did contemplate the e-Mini after ruling out the Honda E due to the Honda's slight issues and crap range, but I'd just want to get a Cooper S in preference. Or an i3 because it's really interesting. Would have to be the 42kW version and I'd want to t...
Re: New 911
You're getting ahead of yourself sir! This is the 992.2. Of course it is - feels like the 992 has been out so long they've facelifted it once already, but that's probably just because virtually all the 992s from around 2022 on the approved used site have the Sport Design pack which gives them the m...
New 911
I watched Porsche’s official launch video for the new 911 on YouTube last night. Quite surprised by a few things: - when they first showed it, I thought they were taking the piss because it looks like a tiny facelift of the 992; - Mat Watson being involved in the launch video and basically doing a C...

Re: Speed Limiters - July '24
My Audi’s predictive cruise control reads speed limits. It often seems to go back to its database though. There’s one long 40 limit on an A-road near us where it decides to slow down to 30 for a second then realises it’s still 40 so speeds up again. No signs to misread.

Re: FAO BMW i3-istas
I can see the appeal. Have you also considered an electric Mini? Same basic drivetrain tech should mean it’s reliable and with EV prices dropping you might get a much newer one for your budget.

Re: Randomness
Oh, a quick Google answered that one. 5,608,310 lbf⋅ft @ 102 rpm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W%C3%A4rtsil%C3%A4-Sulzer_RTA96-C I didn't spot the thermal efficiency in the Wikipedia article so I did some more digging. Apparently the engine is over 50% thermally efficient - i.e. more than half of t...

Re: Speed Limiters - July '24
Purely anecdotal, but I feel like I don't see anywhere near as much speeding as I used to. You just don't see that many people flying down the motorway doing a ton+ anymore, and seems like most of the crashes I see are lack of concentration more than anything (although probably braking assist would...

Re: Bye Bye Sunak..
I don’t think people would piss away a whole year, I think it would be good for most people. It’s stupid though as the U.K. has a really well regarded professional military full of people who want to be there. I don’t see how taking time away from the professionals and putting it towards people who...

Re: State of the Roads
I was rather unimpressed with the number of potholes on the M40 yesterday. Local authority maintained roads I sort of understand the maintenance issues but Highways Agency? That’s just evidence of how badly run the country is currently.

Re: Teh Spotted Thread
It’s not far from here, I’ve not seen the Delta parked there before but the resident is an obvious Italian car perv, that’s a Fiat Coupe peeking in on the right, and choosing matching yellow for whatever the thing is on the left is a strong move. He probably remembers whose bum the headlight covers...

Finally got all my mowers together.
The favourite is the second from the left, the one which should be wonderful but I don’t like is next to the Al-ko.

Re: Choose
Obvs the F1, though I would also spec and have built a Singer - or Tuthill or similar - 911. That wouldn’t be within 2 days so rules it out anyway.
