Re: 1st 6months with the McLaren 720S Spider & an "Issue"

This post seems to be a bit more rushed than previous articles you've written. It's almost like it's missed an editing stage. It's still a fascinating read and I enjoyed it but it seemed a little less polished than your usual work. I'd demand a refund but... Well, you know. Your powers of observati...

Mik is Scottish secret service (Och aye 5) so english law has no jurisdiction over him.
Does he recognize Queen Elizabeth II or is loyal to a decendent of Bonnie Prince Charlie's line?

Re: 1st 6months with the McLaren 720S Spider & an "Issue"

I've never driven anything as fast or capable as a 720S or Senna. However, I regularly run around in an M2 and tuned M3. Even those cars feel most of the time frustrating in dense, Belgian traffic. Do the even faster supercars feel limited in even more places, or can you really enjoy them in any en...

Re: 1st 6months with the McLaren 720S Spider & an "Issue"

You started two paragraphs with “The more time I spend in the the 720S Spider”. Despite one one instance extended to “The more time I spend in the driver’s seat of the 720S Spider”, I consider this flagrant repetition, and therefore deducted 8 points. Thats a massive deduction. Where is the foul?

Re: 1st 6months with the McLaren 720S Spider & an "Issue"

Apparently the AC system is very sensitive to fill level and if there is just a slight drop it goes out. My guess is a bit of lack of use and perhaps a slight underfill originally were the issues. System was pressure tested properly.

Re: Fixing Aston Martin

Not read the article but I did read elsewhere quite recently that Aston went from a scalable architecture with VH to something different with Vantage, DB11 etc. In other words, parts and underlying architecture is not shared quite the way it once was. This I find utterly bizarre as surely in this m...

Re: Fixing Aston Martin

Not from scratch on their own, no, but they developed the new v12 twin-turbo in conjunction with Ford and I think they should have done the same with the v8 turbo - there must have been some development saving if you based the v8 off the v12. Maybe there is some background as to why they didn't but...

Re: Fixing Aston Martin

Totally agree on ditching the silly side projects - can't help but think that F1 will never be anything other than disastrous from a financial POV and will add little to the brand as a whole as it just isn't relevant to their generally GT focussed road cars (save potentially for your suggestion of ...

Re: McLaren 650S Spider: 5 Years as my Daily Driver

Great to hear someone who has a positive experience, can I have first refusal on your ‘good’ car when you come to sell it? If I start saving now... ;) I’ve picked up your time is split between Texas and New England, this McLaren is your daily driver and you’ve referenced driving it between the two ...

Re: McLaren 650S Spider: 5 Years as my Daily Driver

I love the fact that you have one of those as a daily driver and its clear from all your articles how much you love actually driving all your cars. I’ll never be in the position to own any of them, but even if I could, I couldn’t understand buying cars like that to gather dust and be things to look...

Re: McLaren 650S Spider: 5 Years as my Daily Driver

That's fantastic. I would think the magic suspension might have a lot to do with how nice it is to use on a daily basis. Brings to mind the Honda NSX, back in its day, in terms of being a supercar you can use everyday (and that further brings to mind the point when they were sub £20k to buy). Suspe...

Re: Supercar Market Update Q2 2020

It’s the same for all sorts of things, not just super cars. Had the same discussion with the auctioneer at my grandads farm sale. Some of the older rarer stuff didn’t make as much as I thought it should, he put it down to the people who used them in the 50s/60s already having one or dying off, whil...

Re: Supercar Market Update Q2 2020

Really good article @SSO and your point about aging collectors and changing tastes was something I genuinely never considered. That’s a fascinating topic in its own right. I wonder if there’s a couple of Ideas for articles there, one which looks at the “typical” classics for this current generation...
