Motorway Mile Munchers
Re: Motorway Mile Munchers
Those tyres are from 2015 - I thought the car was earlier than that? Either way, they’re 9 years old and your dad already had a sideways moment so probably worth replacing
Re: Motorway Mile Munchers
It’s a 2016 car. I forgot to put the fuel consumption, it managed 44 mpg. My car did 24.1 mpg. Very impressive considering it also seemed to have identical performance to my car.

How many gallons of oil did your car use? Still a good looking car, shame Jag have lost their way

Which reminds me - I spotted the reg JAG 5 today. On a Range Rover.
Re: Motorway Mile Munchers
I spotted a 5-character "BYD" plate yesterday. On a VW ID4. Of course it'll be the owners initials so something, but it looked very silly.Sundayjumper wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 1:29 pm Which reminds me - I spotted the reg JAG 5 today. On a Range Rover.
Re: Motorway Mile Munchers
None, I must have had all the seals and gaskets replaced by now so expect at least another 3 years before it starts causing trouble again

The jag looks great.

Put some time into this today, stuck a pre paid 12 month SIM card in and this lets the car connect online so you get satellite imagery in maps, speed cameras, traffic, iPhone remote connectivity and opens up a whole new section in the infotainment with a web browser and flight tracker. Doug Demoro would love this car.
Also updated the maps, it’s old fashioned so you stick a USB stick in your laptop, go on Jaguar’s website, pay £120 for 3 years. Reason for bothering to update it is that it has a similar system to Audi which shows the map in the virtual instrument cluster which my dad quite likes.
(library image)
We were going to fit an Apple CarPlay module but that wouldn’t transfer maps to the virtual cluster and the car is compatible with Spotify so it seems a bit redundant.
I think the dealer must have used one of those shite valeting places that douse the car in acid. All of the plastic and chrome trim was very tarnished. Even the paintwork seemed dull after a clay bar.
But it came back to life quickly enough
After all that I found a suitable place to have a coffee break
Just as I finished up something caught my eye
A dirty hole I just sprayed some stove paint to improve it.
Gut enough.

They are lovely cars, and the colour combo is definitely better than the description suggested. Hope it proves to be the comfy mile muncher he was after.
Re: Motorway Mile Munchers
Yes he’s very fond of it already and still surprised at how efficient it is. Drinks less than the 120d and 320d courtesy cars he’s had despite its size.

Re: Motorway Mile Munchers
Just drove down to south Devon in the Cayman and driving at legalish speeds we got 31.5 mpg. Knocking around Derbyshire normally returns about 26mpg. Does that make it eligible for the list of motorway mile munchers?

They were broken or he was ragging them senseless. The 120d especially should do 60+mpg without breaking a sweat. Even my old E46 320td would do 60mpg and that was without any modern tech. And it had over 200k miles on it.

Re: Motorway Mile Munchers
This looks identical to my RR. What SIM did you go for ? I don't have any idea of how much data the car will consume.Mito Man wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 8:21 pm Put some time into this today, stuck a pre paid 12 month SIM card in and this lets the car connect online so you get satellite imagery in maps, speed cameras, traffic, iPhone remote connectivity and opens up a whole new section in the infotainment with a web browser and flight tracker.
Does it really need a SIM, can't it use my phone's data that I'm already paying for ?
Re: Motorway Mile Munchers
Apparently it only uses 1gb per month. You may not need a sim. Put your phone into hotspot mode and go into the car WiFi settings and see if it connects. The Jaguar couldn’t find it Apparently needs a dealer software update.
So if the above doesn’t work then sim time. Your car may also be only limited to 2G and 3G which will be phased out by the end of the year. Only O2 and 3 networks still support it until the end of the year.

OK, cool. It's able to connect to my home wifi if I park it right by the lounge window so I guess it should be able to connect to a phone (or standalone) hotspot. I'll try it at lunchtime.
Re: Motorway Mile Munchers
EE do a 12 month data SIM with a lot more data for twice the price: https://store.ee.co.uk/products/ee-payg ... -GGGQ.html
Re: Motorway Mile Munchers
That looks like a good buy Mito, I was just thinking the other day that you don't see many of those XJs around. Which is a shame.
