Electrical oddness.

Plugged the lawnmower in only to find it was dead, maybe an issue with the extension, unplugged lawnmower from extension, plugged tumble dryer into it, dryer works fine. Not an issue with the extension then, must be lawnmower, plug lawnmower into the same socket the extension was in, lawnmower works fine. Odd, must have not had it in the extension fully, reconnect and, dead lawnmower! So I have two electrical devices that will work individually of each other but not together, any ideas what could be the issue?

Was gonna suggest internal breaker on the extension but the dryer probably pulls more juice anyway?

If it’s one of those long extension leads it could be detecting the voltage drop across it and flat out refusing to turn on. If it’s a short one then no idea.

It's long but that doesn't explain why the dryer works with it.

Bent pin that on the mower that the socket is sympathetic to, but not the extension.

That would be logical but the mower has never been unplugged from the extension before this so no opportunity for it to get bent!

Does the mower have partially insulated pins and the drier not?
Either that or you’ve got a short inside the mover plug that closes up in the vertical orientation of the socket and opens when it’s horizontal in the extension

Also the short could be in the cable, just cut about 100mm off the lead and wire a new plug on

Just looked, both partially insulated.

My parents Mower has an inbuilt RCD of some sort so only works on the new extension. Not the one from the 1970s he had before where the insulation is probably half dead. So your problem looks likely to be from the extension in some way.
The tumble dryer won’t have an RCD as it’s unlikely you will cut through the cable when drying socks.
