I remember the glut of supercars arriving at the end of the 1980s and into the 90s as the world economy crashed. Insulated as I was by still being a student, I actually cared about each of the cars being announced back then. I simply don't now, and I wonder if that's because I've got old or are they less interesting than back then?

I can't disagree with your views anyway. I don't think we're going to be getting the very pinnacle of IC-engined cars in the last years before we're forced by law to go EV; already the new hypercars are less appealing than the naturally-aspirated stuff from 10 years ago, and only really seem to have advanced in their traction control systems. The cars which will be the true classics come 2035 already exist, I think.

On the new hypercard, I think those that are tech on wheels will not age well, those that focus on purity of the driving experience have a chance long term.

Never before have there been as many people who can afford them either so there’s certainly the market for it, and in some ways as we approach the twilight years of the internal combustion engine the silly prices will be more justified.
I do think the future will be interesting though. The way things are going I reckon we might see ICE cars banned completely in the next 20-30 years. As it is I reckon all large towns and cities will ban them by the end of the next decade. Of course cars which are worth over £1 million will probably retain their value as they’re an art piece as much as they’re a car. But everything else will surely be pretty worthless?

Very easy to be old and cynical about the latest generation of megabuck (litterally!) cars, probably because I'm old and cynical.

The car I really disagree with SSO on though is the Valkyrie, for all it's amazing spec I really struggle to see much appeal to any of the three groups of a racercar without a race. Maybe that will change if LeMans Hypercar regs prove sucessful, but before then why not just buy an ex-Lemans car with a bit of interesting history? Valkyrie looks so utterly compromised everywhere except big fast track that compard to even the Ferrari FXX project cars I don't really see the point. Apart from the very small number of group 1 that will be renting an entire track and bolting in your own driver to go for some sort of record lap. Or the even smaller number of group 3 that have both the money and the skills to enjoy one.

The Evija and Barrista EVs I'd hope Lotus/Williams and Pinninfarina keep on rapidly iterating with greater power and range and/or technical upgrades/improvements as EV tech keeps improving abit like Tesla do now but with more than just software. I can see that as a way to keep buyers enthused about these cars. I kind of wish DeTomaso had gone EV too rather than that beautiful styling having a fairly ordinary (750bhp ordinary!) ICE V8.

I can see the Logic of the Evija in context of Geely having plenty of money to spunk on positive Lotus headlines right now and Williams wanting to recoupe some CX75 investment. Evija mega power tech will play well with next-gen Lotus' inevitable downsizing to Volvo 4s from Toyota 6s.
