Win 7 Updates

This week I’ve been resurrecting an old netbook to be a dedicated car diagnostics thingy, and started off with a fresh install of Win 7. With the inevitable mass of updates.

That prompted me to check on my regular laptop, which is also running Win 7 (because it’s always worked fine).

It turns out I had all Windows updates turned off. Since the middle of 2014. I had to update Windows Update before it could check for updates

It’s currently downloading 166 updates.

So seeing as it was working absolutely fine before and I should have left well alone, is this going to totally kill it ??

Maybe. Maybe not. It's the Windows lottery. I hope you backed up first?

FWIW I found a server on our estate in the same, erm, state. A total of 144 Server 2012 updates later....I presssed the reboot button and crossed my fingers. Took a while, but came back up.

As you may know, Win7 is out of support soon, so I'd have probably just used it as an excuse to slap Win10 on.
