We’ll hear from everyone with a vague interest in cars saying they should’ve done this, or shouldn’t have done that, how it’s not a “real” Defender (mostly from people who never drove a “real” Defender. And despite all this, they’ll sell as many as they can build.
In fairness this applies to EVERY car that has a loved predecessor.
I'm still seething about what happened to Lotus Elans.

Moulded arches - impractical
Plastic bumpers - tosh
Chequer plate wingtops -I hope you can stand on them ? Although wanky chequer plate is wanky.
Thick pillars -surely the engineering brilliance can adorn it with both a strong and thin pillar ?
Body - how will this be easy to modify? A shapeless boxis one of the Defenders best attributes.

They will sell tons.

Separate arches, separately fixed roof, thin pillars, lovely.

You know I don't really care for Lego, but that does look really good.

My wife has a soft spot for Defenders (her grandparents had several old Landies) - I'm sure she'd enjoy building that.

Maybe we can give it to a niece/nephew/charity once we've had our fun with it...

I still think the Lego model looks more similar to the old Defender

So do I - the separate wheelarches look way better, and the pillars and roof do too.

One thing which intrigues me is the presence of a winch and chequer plate on both the Lego version and the real thing. Are those going to be standard?

Maybe if they sell an off-road version/package.

On the old one you could/still can get the winch and chequer plate as a dealer fit option.
Maybe with strict pedestrian crash tests these days they will have to offer the winch as dealer fit too as I can’t see that winch hook being torso friendly.

What is it with Lego switching to such a wank engine? It’s a massive step backwards, just use the old and superior design FFS!

it’s Lego, if you don’t like a detail, build it the way you want.

Which is exactly what I’ll do, however it sucks that a plastic toy manufacturer which lets be honest here, charges top money for what it is, strips one of their coolest features out to save money :? It’s a model and first world problems and all that though so it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things but for £160 I’d expect the proper technic engine and not something found in a £40 model.

You’re going to have a bonnet somewhat out of proportion if you build it with an in-line six using the cylinder pieces.

It does look like majorly surgery to make it fit, someone with more time than me will figure it out though 8-)

I think the huge Defender script accross the bonnet gives you a clue.
