I have a twitter feed just for news around where I live and it’s brilliant because you get all the juicy stuff that the papers can’t print / don't really care about. For instance the local pub that closed because the bar staff had their hand in the till.

To be fair, Wigan is pretty bleak.

Was in Wigan last month while I had the bike serviced. It's always been a hole but it literally hasn't changed since I went as a youth. Biggest Gregg's I've ever seen too.

People think the pie-eaters thing is a bit of a joke, but they really do love their pies there. Worked with a bloke from there who would spend most of his lunch break discussing pies.

I know, I’ve seen the pie in each hand brigade many times. People think you’re making it up until they see it for themselves

Wigan is the only place I've seen and bought a pie butty. Yes, pie inside a bap/barm/roll. Was nice too.
