Re: CTIIRWOIWAHO
Sadly, the 5.0 (305 cubic inch) V8 is a bit of a boat anchor. It’s basically a 350 small block with a narrow bore. On top of this, this is a TPI motor so it makes loads of torque but struggles to rev beyond about 5000rpm (weirdly it’ll support about 400hp, but not high rpm due to intake runner length).
Options I’m mulling over are:
A) Keep it standard and just rumble around in it wearing a wife-beater vest and a baseball cap
2) Tune the 5.0 with heads, cam, intake for 350-ish hp
iii) Replace the 5.0 with a 350 (5.7) or 383 (6.3) with heads, cam, intake for ~450ish.
•) LS swap of some kind, probably along with a 6 speed manual. Would be a very long term project.
It needs a paint job and some interior work as it’s scruffy but I don’t really care about that.

It’s a 1986 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 IROC-Z. 190hp of tyre shredding fun. I’ll be collecting it once the lockdown is over.

I’d like to turn it into something like this although, this being me, nowhere as nice or well executed.

Haha does your wife know ?
A torquey 350hp would be ample fun and surely you'd be opening a can of worms in terms of breaks/suspension/gearbox at some stage ?

I played a blinder with the wife. Had her convinced I wanted an old station wagon (which she knows I want and that she hates), so when I showed her this she was hugely relieved
Any engine upgrades will get the appropriate other mods. There’s some great suspension upgrades out there.

It’s ready to go. Rust free and mechanically sound. It’s just that half the clearcoat is peeling off and the interior is a bit tired.

Have you seen it in the metal or just the eBay ad?
Re: CTIIRWOIWAHO
Is this a project to replace or complement the 996?
Re: CTIIRWOIWAHO
I wouldn’t pay more than 4 for the one I looked at, budgets clearly more than doubled and away to look at 13 plate 3’er 330d M-Sport Touring at the weekend

Not seen in the metal but what would be the fun in doing it that way?

Re: CTIIRWOIWAHO
I did. And that was the high performance version of the 5.0.
This being a 1986 model, the sporty model was the Z28 which came with a 170bhp TBI engine (throttle body injection, so basically 4 injectors spraying directly into the throttle body). On top of the Z28 package you could order the LB9 engine (which I have) or the 5.7 TPI engine (which I think had 220 or 230hp). The IROC-Z package was a further optional upgrade (that became standard from 1988) that added the “ground effects”, lowered suspension and thicker ARBs.
