Well that’s less than ideal. Any local 911 specialists around who could help?

Yeah, just waiting for a date to get it into them. They’re a bit busy but relatively cheap and do a great job.

How many miles in total have you done since owning?

50.1 then ran out of oil to fill it up with.

Less than 500.

Can there be any oil left in the sump? Using maths it would have gone through 10 litres in that time.

If the issue was there when Dave collected - which was what I was leading up to.

Honestly, there were no signs of it happening earlier. I'm certain something "blew" when I used it on Sunday. I topped it up with oil last week, and it was fine for a couple of days after (I was checking the oil levels) and then suddenly this and hardly any oil in the sump. I didn't even drive it hard but it was the first time I'd used the heater since getting it, so I don't know if that's significant.

Mainly through a lack of much else to do, this one has really got into my head! So say 10 litres of oil has gone missing - even if it's going into the coolant, it has to go somewhere, doesn't it - the expansion tank area would look an Iraqi oilfield if it was blowing out of there. If it was burning off, it'd be a mushroom cloud.

Subscribed.

Fingers crossed on the oil cooler but even a cracked doesn't appear to be catastrophic 🤞

An unfortunate source of stress right there Dave I'm sure. I hope it sorts quickly and without great expense.

On the upside, this is a really interesting thread so keep up the good work by all means.

Did it have any warranty out of interest?

Fingers crossed that it's an easy (and cheap) fix.

Watching FnL last night reminded me of their 996 with an LS. It had exactly the same issue.

Is there any chance the previous owner did a temp bodge and cleaned it up to punt it on?

I'd always be suspicious of that when something goes so soon after buying it...

Given the work Dave has put into it, making it look really quite decent, I'm not sure now if he wants to swap the engine for something else now, if that makes sense? It is, after all, a 'proper' 911 and looks the part. Which makes the failure all the more maddening.

Might be the previous owner had the expensive Hartech rebuild, then babied it around paranoid it'd break. Dave comes along, gives it fucking beans, and pops a previously weak, but not overly stressed, oil cooler.

It's not always suspicious. Sometimes it's just shitty luck.

Normally shitty luck really. How would you even go about bodging a litre-of-oil-per-50-miles type issue temporarily anyway?

Btw - the thought of an LS in a 911 gives me cancer.
