The soft top on the MINI needs a good clean, it's a bit grubby and slightly green in places. What's good for cleaning these things ? I'll default to Autoglym if there's not much difference between them.

I literally bought the Autoglym hood cleaning and protecting kit the other weekend, but I've not had the weather/time to use it yet. AKA it's been pissing it down since.

Seems straightforward enough and Halfords stock it for £25.

When it comes down to it, it's glorified carpet cleaner and scotchguard, can't go that far wrong.

Hood on the BMW is pretty manky, so if it sorts out my BMW I think it'll sort out fucking anything

Any soapy APC solution and a soft brush will do the trick. Then apply some water retardant. Ive got stuff I use for my waterproof jacket which is like a pva solution.

Although the autoglym one is probably path of least resistance.

Autogym cleaner + sealant used to work an absolutely treat on the Elise roof.

Also, I can highly recommend "Gummi Pfledge" to use on the roof seals - used to slather the SLK with it to stop squeaks and noises when the roof was on, awesome stuff.

Wasn’t there some numerically monickered cleaner you were touting a while ago?

A clothes brush. In my case, when I had the cheap Arsetra convertible the previous owners cat used to sleep on the roof and the only way to get it off was the clothes brush, after jetwashing and vacuuming has failed miserably.

I think someone else suggested something something 304 but I'm buggered if I can remember.

Anyway, weather was up for it tonight so have spent the last hour spraying, rinsing, sponging, etc.

Didn't get the worst of the algae out, but looks like the embedded dust and whatnot from where someone has badly hoovered the roof is gone.

Applied the sealant, will see how it looks in the morning...

Probably awful.

The hood is no cleaner, really. None of the stains are gone.

Beads water well though.

Suppose I'll have to find a more aggressive (but not to aggressive) solution to the stains.

Sigh.

Maybe someone should suggest asking advice from Richard Tipper on twitter?

Renovo is the other name that seems to come up a lot, they include a dye to recolour the hood.

If you can't get the stains out, just make them the same colour as the hood

Cats can be really stubborn like that. I'm suprised the jet wash didn't get it to move, though.
