No idea if they're much good to drive, but a V8 convertible with almost 500bhp? The Coupe is undoubtedly nicer looking, but one thing I took away from the SLK55 is, roof down V8's are fucking glorious. Plus this looks better. And has a gearbox that doesn't take 2 hours to change down.

I just don’t like them and I can’t put my finger on why.

Drop top doesn’t look nearly as good as the Coupe to my eyes, but yeah - there is a lot to like in that overall package.

Yes, this. I've been a V8 s/c one and the fake noises drove me insane. Just totally unnecessary.

I commented the same after hearing SJ’s Vantage without the fuse 22 (i.e. super loud mode). It’s a gentleman’s car, not a lager lout‘s. No need to shout.

It's a 500bhp V8. All shouty and drama is part of the fun. It's like the VXR8, it's all part of the pointlessly OTT part of having a stupidly large engine.

Edit - just to add, I'm pretty sure these have tanked hard in value over the last 12 months. I'm sure when I was looking at them not 12 months back they were the wrong side of £35k....

But it just doesn’t sound good, it merely makes lots of noise, and not the pleasing kind.

It's synthetic, it's programmed to make exactly the same crackle every time you lift the throttle. Ergo: wank.

I like a loud V8 but it’s all the stupid pops and bangs that would put me off an F-Type, especially a convertible. It’s so obviously been deliberately engineered to do it and it sounds shit.

Yeah the sound is all WHAAAAARGLE BAAAARRGLE and just not right at all. They are very, very fast, though.

Is it the same engine as the Range Rover SVR? I know they’re both 5.0 supercharged but the SVR sounds like how a V8 should.

I was giving strong thought to renting one for the weekend. Avis do them and it's a few hundred quid to run for 48 hours. Perhaps a fun try before you buy?

I test-drove one whilst looking for a new car for my mum. I like them, but they’re tiny inside and yet feel huge on the road. Laughable boot space. And heavy, so I guess not gentle on the consumables?

But then, what other V8 coupe/conv are there? (Other than AM)

The SVR is all valves and quiet - SHOUTY - burble too.
