I like it, but not £125k+ like it! Seems a lot for .1s faster than a M850i. :geek:

BMW pricing structure means you will be able to get one for about 80 grand no doubt.

These type of cars seem pretty much an irrelevance these days imo.

Yes, and it’s GFV that determines the true cost for most anyway.. maybe RRPs are an antiquated way of valuing cars?

Why don’t they just say it has 700bhp? The headline figure doesn’t make it seem worth it compared to a M850. Read that they dyno’d a new M5 and it was putting out 620bhp at the wheels.

South Africa etc innit?... It has to produce that power at a hot and high place, so low and cold works better. But it won’t produce 700 in Jo’berg, so cant claim it has that bhp.

I imagine BHP like emissions is measured at a pretty normal temperature and sea level rather than something odd like 50 centigrade and 6000 ft above sea level
It is odd that they don’t state it in the small print though, considering that some cars struggle to make their quoted power yet others go way beyond.

I like the new 8 Series, seen a few IRL and they have real presence. But for that kind of money, I'd buy a standard 911.

I hadn't thought about it too much, but I assumed that to form a reasonable basis for comparison worldwide, all outputs would be quoted at standard temperature and pressure condition.

All conditions are standardised, we had a governing body come in every so often to prove we could show every single process of every part was recorded before testing.

It’s why I HATE when people mention conservative dynos, flattering dynos etc. No, it’s either correct or not within a given tolerance.

In the same way RUF seem to achieve more with lower ho numbers I bet the BMW engines make the numbers in all driveable conditions.

I saw an 850 at the airport and it was lovely, an M8 May be one of the few modern cars which makes me want it.

Dave!

Was in a dealer last week and the 8 on display had an inexcusable amount of plastic shit on it. Like every other new BMW on the floor.

They're all hideously overstyled.

bah-humbug.

It's the least gopping of the current BMW line-up, but that really isn't saying much, because there are some utter snotters in the range at the moment.

I was nearly sick when I saw one of the new 3-series on the dealer forecourt next door the other week. The nostrils were so MASSIVE it seemed like you couldn't see the windscreen. And the top half of the nostrils were so obviously blanked off it just added to the hideousness.

As an automotive engineer for two decades I've long been of the opinion that customers are the enemy of fun and good taste.
