A few modifications to my Weber Go Anywhere.
Chopped the cooking grate to let it fit inside the unit, and allow a bunch of other stuff to be carried within it too.


Whilst I had the angle grinder out I rubbed down the corners of the charcoal grate that sits on the bottom. This allows it to sit as low as possible meaning a few extra mm of height for carrying stuff.

I've also made a charcoal basket from a steel loaf tin. Hopefully enough holes but I could always add a few more. The cooking grate fits over this and it also fits into the unit with the lid on, along with everything else, as well as an additional load of charcoal (the first one being inside the chimney).

Going camping this weekend. Probably nothing fancy getting cooked. Will try it for a low and slow at some point - I have some beef short ribs in the freezer.

Do you go camping a lot? Seems like you're getting a lot of use out of it.

We have done since we bought a tent, which required a trailer (and hence a towbar)! So most of the big kit lives in the trailer, which should make packing easier, so the icea of camping for a weekend feels easier. Will test that tomorrow night as we haven't started packing yet for Friday.

We take ours to the beach or park for the day as well as camping. It's so convenient with the 2 sections clamping together and the carry handle.

6cm tall so fits between the grates.
Plus a tenner on some step drill bits

Smashing, I had a quick look but wasn't sure if they were shallow enough.

Much easier to clean with that as well

It's a close fit, touches the cooking grate. Yeah, should aid cleaning. Hopefully I'll get enough air with that amount of holes.

Update. It certainly made it easier to clean the BBQ after use and the charcoal burned well in it, but with the number of holes I'd drilled- fewer in the sides than the bottom - there was very much a focus on direct heat directly above the tin with less heat on the indirect side than having the coals loose (not surprising really). Maybe the tin needs to be made a bit wider and shorter, or will be good for piling in coals for a longer cook.

Short rib and some chicken legs on the WSM over the course of the weekend. Ate it all myself.

Don't worry Duncs it will change. Did an Aldi kilo brisket and my kids and their mates ate the lot in rolls !
