Yes, it was stupid, and part of me doesn't understand how he didn't make the link in this day and age, but it seems like a genuine mistake and they've hung him out to dry. Seems harsh - I notice Dara said similar (not defending it, but saying the sacking was harsh) and he's getting pilloried too.

I don't think it was harsh at all. It was plain racism and no company in the public eye could allow someone like that to represent them.

It was really fucking stupid and ignorant. I don’t believe he’s a racist person but he’s supposedly a clever bloke and should have spotted the connotations of what he was posting. Sacking him was the only option open to the BBC. Being accidentally racist isn’t OK either.

What’s really fucking stupid is his constant attempts to justify it. His response has been to say “it was a terrible thing, I apologise but come on...blah, blah, blah”. Just apologise, explain it once and let the fuss die down, ffs.

I must be some sort of country bumpkin as I didn't see it as racist but if I'm honest I didn't even realise she was black/mixed race.

Our baby will be mixed race, but I've never even thought about that when I try and picture what he/she will look like. I just see a baby in my head.

I didn't even know that the baby was mixed race and I expect that the extremely unfunny DB didn't either. I guess that doesn't matter as we now have to police all online content as if we're all incapable of thinking for ourselves.

I’m quite fond of Danny ‘Daz Doorstep Challenge’ Baker. I can see that he posted it to pillory the freak show nature of the royals but I can see the connotations. Maybe he should have posted a nice innocent picture of Noddy, Big Ears and a Golly.
