Anyone still have their name down/buying one? Someone I know just placed an order for a Performance and has a June (this year!) delivery date.

The performance of the Performance does looks pretty insane...

My understanding (after speaking to them 2 yrs ago) was the first delivery cars go to those who've spent the most.

So has your mate ordered a 70 Grand Tesla 3 ?

Tesla have 18,000 cars in the US alone on Inventory with no customers.

Shorter wait times these days isn’t really a surprise.

The basic one is £30k, I think it was £57k for the performance version.

Nope, UK pricing released. 'Basic' version is now £38,900 which is the standard-range-plus model. It does include autopilot and stuff (although not full self drive, which is @£5k more), but it certainly isn't a £30k car.

That 0 was supposed to be a 9. Fat fingered it.

Base one is 330i money but it's quicker and better specced (BMW want £1700 for a "premium package" of sunroof and power seats).

Shame it hits the £40k premium tax bracket (the price is after the £3500 plug-in car grant is applied) so that'll be an extra £320 a year for 5 years.

I've been reading that the back seats are all but unusable apart from small children because the floor is so high (because of the battery). It's a saloon only and I still hate not having any other interface or binnacle apart from the centre screen. I won't be looking to pick up a second hand one in a few years.

Is it still true that there is no mechanical release on the rear doors? So that once you have stuffed your small children in the rear, crashed, batteries catch fire and there's no power in the car, you can't open the rear doors to get the kids out.

A bit of Google'ing around suggests that this is still the case, but that the electric release is powered by the normal 12v battery, not the huge monster that powers the drive unit.

Rear seats got revised at some point so they're a bit higher and raked up at a front a bit more, meant to make them more comfortable for adults now. Video here:

Everyone seems to say the screen is a non-issue once you get driving.

I'm not keen to buy one (saloons don't do anything for me) but looking forward to them popping up on Turo so I can have a go.

The European reviews say it’s a great car with no quality issues which makes me suspicious if they’re getting the usual special prepared press cars as the American ones still seem a bit iffy with quality control?
My dad wants to change the i3 as it feels pretty old hat now and he really enjoys the self driving function on congested motorway slogs with his pickup so wants Tesla autopilot.

I don't give a bollix how good the on-board computers, you couldn't pay me to sit on Autopilot on a UK Motorway...

Here’s my issue with Teslas, and similar

I can’t charge them at home. I can’t charge them at work.

I don’t have a drive, and I can’t really run a cable from my house to my car without the chance of people tripping over it or whatever. The work car park doesn’t have charging either.

Change your house, change your job, problem solved.

I should charge for this life changing advice.

The constant price tinkering is a joke. It's like they haven't got a clue what they're doing.

And tweeting earlier today about FSD going up another $1000 in 4 weeks because of the 'extra value' (on a late, yet to be released product) is laughable.
