Got my speed awareness course tomorrow (Thursday)

I’ve never been on one before, so not really sure what to expect. Somehow it’s 4 hours long!? 1225-1625, which is an annoying time, lunch wise

£93 well spent? I guess I’ll let you all know

50mph on a dc? Was it a 40 limit or roadworks or something?

They are hit and miss and largely focused on the errors of exceeding the 30mph limit, why it's 30 etc.

I've been on 3 now. first one was actually quite good. Second was downright dangerous and advocated all sorts of stuff I wouldn't recommend to anyone and the third was OK but again, 3:50 on speeding in 30 zones and 10 minutes on speeding elsewhere. mine was 80 on the motorway so was of Zero use.

I know there are people on here who take an alternative view but it's 4 hours of your time to avoid 3 points. Totally worth it.

No actual road works tho. Or cones. I guess they finished the works that day? I don’t really know

They’re alright. The one I went on was fairly informative and not at all preachy.

I sat next to a know-it-all HGV driver who kept shouting out answers, all of them wrong. At one point he told everyone he doesn’t tell his insurance company for his own car that he’s a lorry driver as it raises the premium, to be then told by one of the blokes leading the course that he’d committed insurance fraud.

It was an amusing few hours. YMMV.

Might be a bit late now but did you check with the council that the temp 40 limit was still valid. Police and council are not always joined up.

My sister went on one and I told her there would be a trick question: What would you be doing at 70mph? I said she should be grabbing 3rd, but luckily she wasn't asked the question...

I've been on two, they were OK.

Just sit quietly in a corner and avoid getting involved if you can. Finish and then walk away without the points. Been on two and neither were worth the time if it wasn't for the no points part.

The "best" part is realising that you share the roads with complete morons who have absolutely zero clue what they're supposed to be doing.

Come to Surrey. They're literally everywhere. Either so old they're barely clinging to life (and the steering wheel) or driving an Audi Qx so close to your back bumper that they could polish it if they selotaped a cloth to the front.

Yeah, I get that we all see people who we think are morons driving every day, but a speed awareness course is a rare opportunity to actually prove it beyond any doubt and actually meet them in person.

The worst driving definitely seems to be in the South East, on the rare opportunity that I venture outside this region I notice a marked improvement in driving standards much in the same way you notice it as you cross the channel into Europe.

Fair point. They should use the courses as an opportunity to remove the licenses of those people who prove themselves to be thicker than mince and totally ignorant of the rules of the road. Kinda like 'ask 5 questions in a one on one. Get more than 1 wrong and instant license revocation'.
