Due to an un-fixable left knee issue we need to swap our manual Focus ST for something else. We also have a 4x4 so swapping two cars for one seems logical. Requirements are:
1) Automatic
2) Automatic
3) Automatic
4) Automatic
5) Practical, our standard yard stick size is must be able to fit a Christmas tree in it (seats up or down, doesn’t matter)
6) Good day to day, fun on a Yorkshire country road
7) No dead centre in the steering
8) Good all weather usability (often snows in Yorkshire)
9) Under £40k after deals and discounts etc
10) New enough to have warranty
Shortlist is;
New Focus ST mit auto. Keep 4x4 that’s already on the drive on the fleet
New Mustang V8 Coupe mit Auto. Keep 4x4 that’s already on the drive on the fleet
Second hand but not too old (still within warranty) Mustang V8 Coupe mit Auto. Keep 4x4 that’s already on the drive on the fleet
Jaguar F-Pace mit Auto and ditch existing 4x4 and use family discount
BMW SUV’s are rubbish in the snow round here, saloons don’t get interesting/big enough boot until the wrong side of 40k

But we’re still looking at them to see if anything could fit the bill
Um...

Golf R
Estate if needed, but I think they’re a bit “weird European car” looking - like when you see those Clio Estates in France, or Focus Saloons that we don’t really get

A VAG isn't always the answer to a bloke's problems...

VW - Good shout, will loose my license in one too so that’s definitely a consideration.
Merc - too wallowy, had a C class for two moths earlier this year and it was a great cruiser but as soon as I wanted a bit of fun it was a kill joy. Loved the ‘premium’ feel of it and the ride though (ignoring the plastic fantastic interior that creaked terribly when you pressed any of the buttons)

Good shout, they’ve upped their game, will take a look.

He didn't link to a C-Class
"Hey how about an i8?"
"Nah not for me, I had a 116d once and didn't like the cupholders"

I’ve driven a few and they’re all like that.

BMW is a good shout. I find Audi’s boring to drive and the XF estate is the same price as the F-Pace and I’d much rather the F-Pace for that money.

I find it odd that you want to spend a set amount but don’t know what you want. I settle on what I want (then end up doubling my budget to afford it!)

It’s a first for me. We know we want an auto and there’s a lot of decent cars out there so we’ve set our max budget and working to that. So far, on an economic scale, the F-Pace is winning due to the hefty family discount we can get I.e. significantly more for our money.

Ooooooh that’s very tempting and has a spec we’d go for

Straight to the consider seriously list.

That has an unexpectedly boring and plasticky interior for a new Volvo.
