Couldn’t even see an attempt to put it out, not that I can see how they can.

Not sure it is much consolation but the spire apparently is a 19th century reconstruction and not original. Let's hope they manage to save the rest of it.

For once Trump has made a good suggestion but I can't see there being any tanker planes nearby

Gotch, trying to find crumbs of comfort.

I don’t think dumping tonnes of water on an 850 year old building that is already unstable would be much help.

I don't understand what's burning. Looking at photos of the interior, a lot of the interior looks like stonework. But it's burning like it's full of wood?

Timbers supporting the roof and the lead?
Still the stone exterior walls should be fine.

Trumps suggestion was 'put it out quick'.
That's hardly a 'good suggestion'. It's pretty fucking obvious.
The stupid orange perineum proved the adage of a stopped clock being right twice a day, and nothing more.

Not necessarily I’m afraid. Let’s hope so though
There’s a huge amount of mass no longer resting on the walls which could be a factor.

The Catholic Church put out an appeal last year to save it as the stonework was crumbling.

Yes, it was/is undergoing refurbishment works. Most of the roof area still has scaffolding over it.

Firefighters don't reckon they can put it out.
