Modern Life - Lockdown Drills at School
Modern Life - Lockdown Drills at School
My son's school had a "Lock Down Drill" today...
New Alarm Bell and new processes - Doors locked and secured, Blinds down, hide under desk etc.
It's a bit of a sad indictment of modern life really...

My daughter's school does this once or twice a year. Sign of the times.

Re: Modern Life...
All schools now have to do this.
Did none of you do it? I remember having a plan at school for nuclear attack. I remember having to get under your desk etc.

well 25 years ago at school we had 3 bomb scares, at least 1 of which had a recognised IRA codeword. That's proper 'abandon school, take nothing with you' territory. Still, got us out of an afternoon of working a couple of times.

This is in Newport Pagnell...
I know it's good they have a plan and the layout of the school (pretty much a separate building for each subject) means it could get chaotic very quickly if, say, someone was wandering around with a couple of Machetes. It's a bit strange. Even growing up in Ireland during "The Troubles", we never had anything like this.
he was looking forward to it though - bit of excitement and a break from the normal day

I remember doing something like that at school after the Dunblane shooting.
It seems like overkill to do it here but it's better to be prepared I suppose.
As long as they don't start mock executing teachers .

“I thought,” he said, “that if the world was going to end we were meant to lie down or put a paper bag over our head or something.”
“If you like, yes,” said Ford.
“That’s what they told us in the army,” said the man, and his eyes began the long trek back down to his whisky.
“Will that help?” asked the barman.
“No,” said Ford and gave him a friendly smile.”
