How much will remain once you're done modifying it?

Oh most of it. It's a really well built bit of kit. The interior could do with a bit of finishing, and there are details like wipers, heater etc to add, but basically it's ready to go.
Nice thing about the EJ20 engine is that it's always be easy to swap it for an EJ205 (Impreza turbo lump) at some point in the future if I decide I want more power.

Quick to pick up from a rolling start, but handling a bit floaty?

I donโt think a hovercraft can do a rolling start Beany.

Given your LEGITIMATE BUSINESSMAN requirements, I assumed it was Second Hand, Say No More.

Collected the new craft yesterday. OMG it's a beast! You can see in the photo how tiny the Westfield looks next to it! It fits in the garage with a gnat's bawhair to spare (some reorganisation of the workshop is going to be required).
Having played with it a bit under the supervision of the previous owner, I don't think power is going to be an issue at all. It's got over 250lb of thrust and weighs only 650kg. By comparison, the old Hoverhawk my friend Spenser already owns has about 75lb of thrust and weighs over 500kg.
I'm also seriously chuffed at how nicely it's all been put together. The sheet metalwork on the hull is 100% OEM quality, everything down to the hose clips has been done in marine stainless, all of the mechanicals have been perfectly balanced. Proper engineering job.
Can't wait to get out and play with it!

Opening the garage door to that sight must be a massive kick!

I've taken over both sides of the garage now (this is one side), and added a shipping container. Once I've rejigged the organisation the order, left to right will go:
Race car trailer
Hovercraft
Empty space for working on cars
Racecar
Jet boat
(TVR and Westfield in garages round the corner)
Not bad, I suppose
