I couldn't believe this. It's like something out of a far side cartoon. You'ren just flying along and a bit of the side of the plane falls off and the cabin depressurises. Apparently a child has his shirt sucked off him.

They recently had a blanket recommended inspection from the FAA because they found one with a missing nut on the rudder

They've grounded all of them in the US.

I think it’s nuts that they can just block off an exit like that because they don’t need it legally - what if one side of the place is on fire etc.

I've always found Airbus planes to be massively superior to Boeing in terms of comfort, noise and general passenger experience. The 737 debacle has not altered that perception in the slightest. Will we see Airbus starting to make inroads into the domestic US market?

The day that starts to happen they will implement protectionist laws whereby domestic flights have to be US built (that’s a reference to the Jones Act)

I thought the ancient 747 we flew to New York on was much quieter and more comfortable than the airbus we came back on.

Depends which airbus you were on. I've flown on the 380 and 350. Found the 350 much better. More room and better infotainment. It does also depend on what carrier you fly and how they've specced them.

Haven't flown on a max yet.

I've done west coast USA in both an A380 (upstairs) and a 787. The Airbus was night and day quieter, more comfortable and all together more relaxing than the 'dreamliner'. The 787 was just horrid in comparison. The A380 you could barely tell the engines had wound up for takeoff. Bliss.
