So what are you doing in your own bubble to help future generations ?

Mine are simple.

Fix things, don’t just throw away.
Buy for the long term, so invest in longevity.
Re-cycle and re-use.

It has been touched on in the Theresa May thread about the concerns some of us have and it’s an interesting subject.

Dave!

I’m doing my part by not having any kids. Less people to fight in the thunder dome.

Out of interest Dace!, what do you actually do above the ordinary? You have a pretty large carbon footprint to offset with your flying all over the world for work, two V8s and kids/dogs?

Well Dave parenthood must be making us soppy.

I've started thinking along the same lines and replaced our broken kettle and toaster with repairable Dualit items, the toaster was even second hand to my wife's disgust 😂

Trying to make sure they turn into decent human beings whilst providing all they need without turning them into selfish spoilt brats.

I don’t go out of my way to sacrifice my quality of life for it but I think just being a decent human being would be enough as said. After all my efforts of eating a locally produced apple vs a mango shipped from Thailand would be a bit futile once you take into account the grander scale of them world and the atrocities the third world countries are committing to try to develop. Still everyone needs to make a living somehow.

It’s pretty depressing this time of year where the hedgerows have no leaves and you can see the amount of litter thrown into them, I don’t know if it’s getting worse because the council no longer invest as much to clean the roads or if it’s because people are becoming ever greater cunts.

Our washing machine is 17yrs old this year and had a few new bits in that time. I think the range is a similar age.

It really wound me up just before xmas tho when our tumble dryer just stopped working. I could not trace the issue and timing was terrible so we bought a new one. :(

My carbon footprint is huge, the plant I just finished up on can burn 800 tons of heavy fuel a day, I could be Bob Geldofs personal ideas man and still never be neutral!!

We walk everywhere, get local produce, re-cycle what we can etc. One big difference we noticed was after going to everything local a few years ago, meat, veg and buying everything locally was how much less re-cycling we have.

We do use a lot of fuel though, I use rapeseed oil in the Landry in the summer but I think this is probably worse than diesel when you look at the overall environmental picture.

100% this. I have to overcompensate a bit for the time they are not with me, where the £ is king. It's half the reason why I do so much volunteering.

Much the same as been said. Reuse, recycle, share. Cut down on meat, buy local.

We're also fortunate that we've got a large extended group of friends/family with children in the same age brackets as ours, so there is an active clothes and toys swap forum. We do buy them things, but far less than if we had to kit them out fully and it rankles less when you know the clothes they've worn a couple of times or for a season isn't just wasted. The boys like inheriting from their cousins.

We've also used reusable nappies almost exclusively. Apart from saving us a small fortune, it should also reduce their carbon footprint and landfill contributions.

We talk about things coming to them when they can fit them. They remember and get very excited.

The only items we don't reuse are shoes. The ones we buy that they grow out of are recycled
