Maybe it's time to sell mine, 200cc more but double the miles :D
and rust, and scabby paint, and then I wouldn't have it.
Maybe not.

Cool thing but I think a million bucks is a little over optimistic

Looks a bit too kitcar/built in a shed for something from 2009.

The interior is just 997 with some quilted bits and Boxster air vents so not really Veyron level build is it. That said the cut down speedster style windows are 8-)

i seem to remember E39s being pretty flakey even back when they were young - not sure I’d want one unless it was special enough to warrant spending money on it (at least in sport spec and ideally a well specced 540 or M5 only really)

What to look out for? That the routine maintenance has all been done, including:
- water pump
- thermostat
- gearbox oil
- HVAC resistor
- all suspension bushes etc
- rocker cover gasket
- pixel repair in dash and centre console
- bent alloys (prob not as much of a concern on those 16”s)

Ta chaps. I've found many links as well, unsurprisingly.
I was considering a 125i for the straight six, then went lower in budget...

I’m not an expert but you’re in a whole world of pain with those BM V8s aren’t you? Wasn’t it valve stem oil seals and timing chain guides that were perennial problems...

Looks clean but auto, that I6 loves to be revved, so four speed slushbox removes a lot of appeal to me.

In four years mines been through two radiators, drinks a litre of oil every thousand miles (oil separator replaced with no effect) new cam and crank sensors and new thermostat. The alternator and battery also departed near simultaneously in some sort of suicide pact.

The original head unit had lost the left side amps. They can be rebuilt but I replaced. The HVAC fan control " hedgehog" also went.

Rear springs needed replacing.

I've done everything except the springs myself, quite a nice car to work on most of the time.

We had a 523i as a run around for the wife. It was great. Just wear and tear stuff plus rear springs from what I can remember. It was lovely until she wrote it off. On the plus side we were paid out far more than we paid for it!

They do seem a bit hit and miss, cooling systems are pretty fragile, as they are on e46s. Some 6pots like drinking oil, most of the internet will tell you it just needs the crank vent replacing. It probably won’t, there are deeper issues. It won’t kill the engine, they’ll still soldier on forever, they’ll just drink oil.

Electronics can be a bit flakey. They tend to be either fine or a pain in the arse with multiple faults which no one seems to be able to track down.
