“We’ve received an allegation that you’re using the following unlicensed software:
- Software A we’ve never used
- Software B we’ve never used
We’ve checked with [Vendor] and they have confirmed that you are not licensed for this software.
Now we’re demanding a full audit”
How about you go stick your fishing rod up your arses?

I remember when they started their antics 20 years ago, sending out prospective allegations to all and sundry. The advice is always the same - file it under 'B'...

Translation: We have no idea and are too stupid and lazy to do the actual leg work so we'll spam everyone and hope people 'fess up.
Laughable.

See also TV licensing and those people who harass you if you sing happy birthday in restaurants.

The TV Licensing people are always quite agreeable with me. They ring up every year.
“Are you still not watching or recording live TV?”
“Correct”
“Thanks. Speak to you in 12 months”

Imagine them phoning ZedCock:
"I don't have TV"
"You don't have a TV?"
"Yes, I have a TV"
"You just said you didn't"
"I have TV"
"Why did you say you didn't?"
"I was trying to be miserablist and awesome"
"Why?"
"The chicks love it"
"Really?"
"No."

“Are you still not watching or recording live TV or using iPlayer at all?”
“Correct”
“Thanks. Speak to you in 12 months”
FTFY.
Of course it's ridiculous that a private company phones you every year to confirm you're not buying their optional product. How about:
“Are you still not watching or recording live TV or using iPlayer at all?”
“None of your business”
“Thanks. Speak to you in 12 months”
"If you do I'll file a complaint for harassment. Never contact me again and remove my contact details from your records."

The pricks actually did a university accommodation halls round. I had a tv which was merely used for the PS3 so the chap seemed convinced he had me. I got annoyed with him as was running late to my lecture so just left him in my room whilst he was midway through quoting some legislation which didn’t apply...

Yeah. It’s about picking your battles though.

Not sure if serious question, but Happy Birthday is a copyrighted work - so technically you're performing it without consent etc.

Yes serious question. I've never seen any other reaction to Happy Birthday other than embarrassment / irritation on the behalf of the birthday celebrator, and the imminent arrival of a cake.

Cool, I will continue to treat this feud with slightly confused indifference.
I've never heard of someone complain about singing happy birthday. You'd have to be a right miserable bastard.

Pretty sure it was recently put into public domain because it was a rip off of a public domain tune. I'll see if I can find a link later.

FWIW I'm in favour of the license fee and people who watch/record live TV and/or use iPlayer should damn well pay it. I'm closely involved in the delivery of iPlayer and so I know the costs and complexities of it all, and I'd much rather pay £145 or whatever than put up with adverts or pay through the nose for Sky.
I'm just not in favour of Capita and it's goons who bully, harass and misquote the law just to hit their targets.
